Schwarz and Wallin were just warm up fights. If he becomes the undisputed champ I'll consider Fury an ATG but only if he becomes undisputed.
If he beats Usyk he becomes the GOAT and vice versa because the winner will have proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that they cannot be defeated by skill, power or will, whereas all the other top 30 ATGs to a man have all been bested by at least one of those, even the ones who are technically 'undefeated' because they lost to one of those too but the judges were in the bag.
He's not done yet. Also, there have been many great heavyweight fighters going back at least a century.
FTR, I could very easily edit the poll options with my mod powers and switch the Yes to where the No is and the No to where the Yes is
Why do you have low bar like that ? Even if he beats Usyk he still have to fight other guys. And Usyk has to fight somebody other than AJ and Fury. Whyte and Joyce at least. ( he beat Hunter already ) There are 4 belts. Fighters should fight 4 toughest opponents to consider best of the division. For example: Usyk has to fight AJ second time, than defend his tittle against Joyce(WBO), than fight for undisputed against whoever will hold that WBC belt, than defend his tittle against Hrgovic(IBF) or Helenius(WBA) and than maybe I would call him GOAT
To avoid injury? Fury still wasn't 100% when he fought Wilder. It was a sensible move in hindsight. At the time I was annoyed when he fought low level fighters yet here we are.
Just because he beat an out of prime Wlad doesn't make him a auto great. I see why you think that but you need to dig deep to realize he just isn't. He's fought only 3 past or active champs which were Cunningham, Wilder and Wlad. Which is kind of sad considering we live in a soup alphabet belt era while Ali had 14 with 2 belts and Lennox had 14 with 3.
It's all about perception. It's funny, you know, I have always been a Fury fan but now with all these numbers jumping on his bandwagon, I am kinda jumping off....lol! He's a great personality for boxing who has made the most of his in ring opportunities. Funny thing though, I don't consider Riddick Bowe to be an all time great but when the question was posed here of what would happen with a prime Bowe v a prime Fury, I couldn't imagine Fury beating him, I really couldn't . My answer is no unless he beats Usyk, then it will be yes.
Low bar? The bar couldn't be set any higher It's not about who you've beaten It's about who can beat you and if no one can beat you you're the GOAT Usyk and Fury have already beaten different and better models of those fighters before They've reached the summit of the mountain now You want them to descend back down and climb it again?
Well it would help if he fought more opponents. Some people like to rely on their own "eye-test" others like to make decisions of who they've actually beaten. But it's a bit difficult to say he beats everyone, if he only fights the same guy he has the measure of, over and over again. Title defences are important too. I'm confident he will finish his career as an ATG. But his resume is not quite there yet for me: TIER LIST: Heavyweight Champions by title fights (1990 to present) | Boxing News 24 Forum (boxingforum24.com)
He’s not even had a reign yet, he only has 1 title defense… that’s poor to put an ATG status on him. I have no doubts that he will be, he just needs to rack up wins
