Fighters you think should not be considered great which are commonly accepted as by the majority.

This hurts as a huge Kenny fan .

I agree he doesn't have the best case for all time heavy greats but he did play a role in the 70's.

 

Still haven't let go of when you saw that thread where people said he had the chance to beat Tyson now he's an overrated bum who everyone thinks is the greatest? Give me a break. He was a great fighter but his resume doesn't add up to rank him, you could in a h2h list.


When you see a couple of people say he could beat someone in a fantasy fight, that doesn't mean everybody ranks him as a top 5 HW of all time.

 

He did, yes, and it surely affected his performance. Conn, though, weighed 30 pounds less, which really is a testamanent to Billy's skills that he stayed in for so long with a much bigger guy.

 

I don't believe if it was just motivation. He was drinking and drugging even when he was at his very best. There's a documentary on him that's very eye opening on just how many demons in his soul .
But as I've said many times he was his own worst enemy. His fate is very typical of what happens when one refuses to acknowledge one's issues and deals with them and continue down that dark path to self destruction.
All that talent couldn't save him from himself.

I occassionally see him in most people's top 5 so I get genuinely angry as to why he's ranked so high

 

I think Hector was an underacheiver who thought too much, then you have a Hearns who took on all challenges and didn't think as much.. Had Hector been stopped like Tommy had been, I don't think he would have functioned well. That is a case of someone being mentally stronger and not letting things bother him as much. More focus.. Not that Tommy was more skilled than Hector, just more focused to be great. Hector wanted to be a showman.

 

I saw that documentary by the way.. I ordered showtime for 2 weeks just to watch it. I think it was on showtime.
