The definition of best is simply that you are better than anyone comparable. Tyson Fury is the man who beat the man, the 11-year reigning lineal champ, a title he has held since. He hasn't been beaten, he has beaten the biggest puncher (one of the big players of his era) 3 times and in 3 different ways. Who else has achieved that at heavyweight and in this context the more important question is probably, who can still go on to top that? AJ who already has two losses, can't do so without beating Tyson. The lineal champ. Wilder has just lost a full trilogy to Tyson, the lineal champ, so he can't. Dillian Whyte has already lost multiple very winnable fights and again, can't win the lineal championship without beating Tyson. So the answer is and can only be Oleksandr Usyk, who comes in as undefeated, unified Cruiserweight champion who has just made his first big play in the division with a bit of an upset against one of the big players. If Tyson retires without fighting him then Usyk could go on and beat AJ in the rematch, then Wilder, perhaps a couple of other guys who become big names on the scene in years to come and then also retire undefeated, having potentially or potentially not topped the achievements of Tyson Fury. Hence why I said Usyk is the only guy he NEEDS to fight and beat in order to ensure that he is the best.
I respect him if he retires. Of course i want to see Fury and Usyk but not if Fury is not fully into it and in good condition, that would be sad after what he has given us.
Don't think he will retire, but if he does it will seem like he's not up to the big challenges. I think he's ****ing tiresome tbh with all his talk.
Usyk is the reason he is considering retirement. Simples . As an Usyk fan, it wouldn't really bother me, if it makes it easier for him to grab the last belt for undisputed status. Everybody goes on about belts meaning nothing and it's all about lineal and beating the man who beat the man. I agree with a lot of that sentiment but in reality, dudes who grab all 4 major belts will go down in history. If Fury was to retire and then Usyk fights somebody for the vacant wbc belt then it's a perfect example of exposing the lineal/beat the man who beat the man tripe. If Fury really wanted to go down in history he would fight Usyk for the undisputed title, none of this nothing left to prove ****. However when you have vested interests claiming Fury is number one unchallenged, then you give Fury the perception that he has nothing left to prove. If there was more honesty especially from vested US fight networks we would have a better boxing universe. It's not unlike Lennox Lewis retiring after fighting Vitali. Lewis had done a lot more than Fury but a legitimate rematch with Vitali was warranted.
He isn't considering retirement. Tyson Fury will fight again, 100%. He only said he doesn't know what's next for him because it was one day after the fight. People seem to think that because a fighter isn't saying, yeah I'm going straight in with Usyk next week, that it means they're thinking about retirement! Fury will probably say a lot more stuff between now and his next fight because that's just him. But fight he will. As for Usyk being a reason for him to retire, you surely don't believe that? Big 6'9 man worried about little Oleksandr after getting up from multiple concussive punches off Deontay Wilder across 3 fights? Oleksandr Usyk can beat Tyson Fury, but it'll take an incredible performance. Fury isn't just bigger, but match that with the fact that he knows exactly how to use that advantage better than anyone I've ever seen before and then maybe think again about how scared he'll be of Usyk. There's no blue print for beating him
He may very well retire now. He has said that there is no money in Whyte or Usyk, the two most likely guys on his horizon. I could see him hanging them top, or maybe taking a big money swan song against com backing Klitschko or Haye.
