It gives as a comparison with Spence's performance and lets be honest that's predominantly why this fight intrigues us as they are the 2 clear top welters but have so far not faced each other and this is the next best thing. If he struggles it says that there is no clear favourite but if he dominates or even stops Porter then it suggests Crawford is the better fighter and that could put real pressure on Spence and maybe then this fight could be made. But then again maybe it just makes it even harder to make.
For my view, although Porter lost 3 v close decisions, they were very close - razor close with Brook and Thurmann IMO. Ironically I think he was maybe lucky to get the nod against Ugas. Why this is a great fight for Crawford is that no one has come close to dominating, schooling or stopping Shawn If Crawford can dominate or even stop Porter, then he makes a pretty damn big statement that backs up what many folks say that Crawford is the best @147 It's great for Porter because he gets another chance to mix it with an elite P4P name - and possibly upset the apple cart. I can't wait for this one, best fight left this year IMO!
Iron sharpens iron. Porter has been in there with the best and imo has shown improvement every time. If Crawford annihilates Porter he deserves big time credit.
Nah he's simply too much of a **** to get behind. Guys like Porter or Stipe Miocic from the UFC are my bois though.
I had Ugas schooling Porter. 9-3/8-4. Porter was completely befuddled and lost in there. He was also dropped, but the ref ruled it a slip. Porter is more times a beast than not, but he swerved the rematch like the plague.
Depends on how he beats Porter. Porter gave all the top guys problems. Never an easy fight. If Crawford puts on a master class performance, it will put separation between him and the rest. Will I put him above Usyk? Probably not.
Of course it will prove if he belongs with the WW elite or if he’s just a current day Adonis Stevenson..
Hmm, schooled I think is a fair old exaggeration there - I had it 7-5 Ugas FIWI, but I felt it was competetive and Ugas low-workrate arguably lost him a few swing rounds.
Yeah even if he annihilates Porter KOing him early that wouldn't be enough for me to rank him above Usyk, Porters good but he's expected to lose whenever he's at this level. Crawford would need to convincingly beat Spence as well for him to be in consideration to be ranked above Usyk.
I’d rather see Porter rematch Ugas and the winner getting this fight. Ugas is a better overall fighter. Porter is a solid gatekeeeprr for Crawford but has almost zero chance of winning. Crawford will get props when. He knocks him out.
He lost to every elite fighter but also he gave tough fights all of them. I scored Thurman fight 115-113. I scored Spence fight 115-114. I scored Brook fight 116-112.
