Could Jimmy Young have beaten Muhammad Ali in a rematch?

Yeah every time he got serous Young "ducked out". Ali should have put his foot on his ass and gave him a good shove out of the ring altogether.

you may not approve of the style, but the game of the game is scoring. Judges do not score based on style but on scoring. Let's face it, this is one fight in which Ali lost

 

he was most likely referring to the pressure of a big fat walrus coming towards him and pushing him thru the ropes

 

No ,actually he won a U Dec because his opponent didn't have the nuts to go and take the title.The scores flattered Ali ,but to award the title to Young after that performance would have been a travesty. There was no demand for a rematch,I know that much!

I admire Young. Don't find him stylistically pleasing and, boy, was he a spoiler. Still he was clever and he was brave. Going into their '77 fight Foreman was a frightening opponent - and yet Young found a way to win. He was lucky he faced an Ali who was in woeful shape. The belly. The lack of muscle tone in the arms. The timing so off. I don't think Young would have beat a focused Ali in a rematch. Ali was on the slide in '76. He still had enough to beat Young, though.

It’s probably likely that he would have.
Ali managed a couple of more close shaves against Shavers and Norton but was running on close to empty. It’s hard to believe the thrilla was only 6 months before the Young fight and he had a fight with Coopman in between!
Young was beating Lyle and Foreman in the next couple of years, I think he would have pulled it off.

 

you are still confusing STYLE for scoring and it is scoring in which Jimmy excelled

I dont see why you continue to pursue a lost cause, trying to make a case where none exists while ignoring the obvious

and Jimmy's right hands to the head could simply not be ignored.

He had Ali covering up and while his hands were up guarding his head, Jimmy unloaded to the body. Ali simply could not solve his style

so why would THIS be a travesty???

Jimmy scored to both the head AND the body. Moreover, you must give points when going to the body otherwise, Joe Frazier never would have won Fight of the Century
