In some circles I have heard him called the Thomas Hearns of the Philippines I would not go that far but he most certainly was an executioner with the left hook.
McKinney looked dull here imo. His reactions weren't very sharp at all. Brilliant performance from Espinosa. His offensive form was strikingly good. The first knockdown was set up great. If you like well strewn together, 1990s offensive fighters like Espinosa then definitely check out Julio Cesar Borboa. The man was a fluid animal.
Yeah, McKinney was 4 pounds north of his best weight and at least a couple of years past it here. His previous fight was 12 months earlier with Junior Jones in a real see-saw battle. As a McKinney fan, it's tough to watch him getting beaten up here.
Espinosa is very undetrated... almost never gets mentioned.. not even by the pinoy posters...its a shame cause he was an exciting fighter with great offense ... one of the best feathers of the 90s...
McKinney was on a nice little run but Espinosa just destroyed him. I wonder if his upset of Junior Jones took something out of him but Espinosa was in very good form himself and was just a brutal puncher despite a slightly misleading record. I remember his stoppage of the tough Alejandro Gonzalez to avenge a previous loss, was pretty devastating too. It used to be on YouTube from memory and is also worth a watch.
