Women's boxing needs more of the knock out jeopardy which ultimately defines boxing. Yes, we can all admire footwork, ring IQ, punch-picking, defence, etc etc but all fights should be watched with the very real prospect one of the two fighters might end up flat on their back, counting stars. Savannah brings this to the party, and the sport needs more like her. And three minute rounds to allow fatigue and accumulation of punches to contribute to more stoppages...
I can enjoy women's boxing, especially Savannah Marshall, but it's like young amateurs where I don't want to see a one punch spark out KO. That "what did I just watch?" feeling is a lot stronger.
I get that, and generally I don't watch female boxing but I think that's for the reason I outlined above; the almost total absence of brutality and conclusive finishes. But yeah, sometimes it don't quite rest right with me watching a woman punch the lights out of another woman. But then, I've spent nights out in Newcastle so I should be well conditioned...
