AJ booted trainer McCracken, wants to be a "dog" against Usyk

Good move. He needs a new trainer.

 

Add the fact that Usyk is as near a text book professional in each and every way. His mental strength and judgment on his opponents is second to none. He totally outclassers AJ mentally in every way. Usyk has a cold harsh clinical firm belief in himself that AJ simply doesn't have.

Usyk simply has AJ's number, just like Fury has Wilders IMO.

It's going to be another bad night for AJ.

It's interesting he says everyone thinks he is a pure boxer. Most think he's a big stiff idiot that can't box. He styled himself as a KO artist but now he wants to make out he's a boxer because he's lost his bottle.

That being said if he can bring back the old AJ, even if it's only for a few rounds then that's a problem for Usyk.

 

Worth a shot tbf. No one knows if it will bear fruit but its time for him to take that gamble. Mckracken done a good job for joshua but he took him as far as he could go...for him to get to the next level he probably needs another experienced voice now.

Imo the one thing missing with aj...is that he never really had a gameplan as such. It was always be relaxed and box see what comes of it as opposed to setting up his shots and having a plan to move from defence to offence apart from letting smaller guys come into him throwing then catching them on the counter by putting shots together. Would be good to see him setting up attacks with a good jab and mixing the jab up from a range control to setting up an attack off it. Between that and learning to use his feet to diffuse an opponents attacks/offence would make him a different fighter.

 

Only AJ could give himself a backhanded compliment lol.

 

Ronnie Shields trains with the Charlos and neither of those fighters is world class.

 

I gotta be honest I always thought AJ would steamroll usyk, but after watching the first fight I dont know what he can do to get the W in 10 out of 10 fights against such a skilled fighter as usyk.
He doesnt have the boxing skills , he doesnt have the chin, he doesn't have the stamina.
He'll gas before he folds usyk, He's pretty ****ed any which way but loose as far as I can see...

 

It is good to see him trying to do something about it nothing wrong win Macraken but maybe they were just getting stale together it happens. He needs to try something different if he is going to have a chance at beating Usyk. I just don't think he has the chin to be a dog anymore. Like some have said I believe that Klitchko fight took a lot out of him especially mentally. AJ is still a top heavyweight his cautious style will work against most heavyweights just not Usyk, Fury or Wilder. If he wants a dog fight I think Usyk will knock him out but he may as well try kill or be killed.

It wasn't just the fact AJ was comprehensively outboxed, he was the one who was visibly hurt multiple times.

AJ now knows for sure Usyk can stop him, after that 12th round he knows, this isn't just a case of being more aggressive, he could easily walk on the something and he knows it and that's why he didn't go for it in the first fight.. he has to mix it up and do it at the right times, that's the crucial part.

And the issue is AJs ring IQ, AJ needs to do certain things at the right time and know exactly what to do, I don't think he can just wing it and when but when you listen to him talking to McCracken in the corner he seems clueless at times and has to be walked through nearly everything.

In the rematch of AJ has a bad start he will just wilt and either get stopped or quit.

 

Borderline delusional self belief is an asset for an athlete. If Evander Holyfield listened to everyone who said he couldn’t do it, we’d have never heard of him.

 

You do have a point. I don't believe he beats Usyk. He's going to destroyed in that ring next year, but i won't mock him for believing in himself

He probably will get stopped imo, I just don’t think it’s fair to mock him for believing in himself and trying. If he wants to search every gym and dojo for his Mr. Miyagi, I say all the power to him.
The fear of losing is a silly reason to not try.

 

Correct thing to do. AJ needs something different. McCracken can't give him that.

 

The problem here is a fighter would never change trainers if they didn't after a loss to avoid the trainer looking the scapegoat.

Its boxing AJ won't be the last to change trainers. AJ and mcCraken had a good run and McCracken was well looked after but as with other fighters this run has run its course.
