Maybe I don't understand physics but size=power, right?

    Speed + technique + timing = power

I don't mean to oversimplify it to much on you and I know I don't know this stuff well and am looking for answers not saying I got them. But I am also not a dummy just because this is not my feild. In my home state we have something called the bar and I passed that test. Alabama is where we do that so that people can become lawyers and legal scholars and I did make the grade. That is not simp stuff but I can learn other things too that are not my job as a hobby, you know? Anyways, so, whether or not a gas is real is existential. If you see bubbles inside your soda, it's got extra gas in it besides the water, right? We have blood, and the more blood you have, the more gas you have. Like when they check your blood arteries gas, and then it's okay or not at the doctors office lab or wherever. So, the more bigger you are, the more you can-how do I put this? Gases cause pressure. Like in an oxy tank. If there's enough, the pressure equals force so that tank can explode or mess up your sinuses. Are you with me? So, more volume/mass/more bigger people have that, more gas, more pressure, more force through your punch. A+B=C, right? So, if you can be that much pressure, you're gonna come out with a lot of speed. Like A LOT compared to someone that's like 100 lbs lighter. But then we see fighters being real world slower when they're fat. So, I got you on that, but p4p, aren't they in fact way quicker?

So, not size at all then?

Jab is actually quite slow. It is fastest and easiest to land because you use your front hand and the path to the target is smallest.
Also you don't load on it so opponent has less time to react. Fastest punches are usually hooks. (fastest as in at the time of an impact your fist has highest velocity)

Yeah, it's the least powerful behind it so it's gonna be slower. Good point.

Torque would probably be helpful to this discussion.

    Such a wind-up merchant :risas3:

It really does show people's lack of Newtonian mechanics at an elementary stage.

You can be the biggest strongest guy, but if you dont know how to transfer your weight when throwing your punches, youre not going to be able to punch your way out of a paper bag. Technique, has alot to do with how power is generated, size has nothing to do with it.

Okay, so, who is the biggest heavyweight puncher you feel has the best punching technique, out of curiosity. Liston?

It's called 'Seeking knowledge.' I don't know Newtanian physics but I do know about intercranial curiosity and I am humble enough to emit I don't know anything. It's like Freud said "If you think you know physics...you don't know physics." For real. Peace.

    There are several possibilities.

Sometimes it's because of accuracy. If you land a slow but solid blow in a sensitive spot like the bridge of the nose, the temple, or the liver for example, it's going to do a lot of damage. You don't even need to be a devastating power punches to hurt someone if you land a decent blow there. I'd rather take 10 blows to the chest than a single blow to a sensitive area.

Another reason is because some guys are denser. As in, their bones are thicker and they may have big fists and thick muscle which can have a weird effect when they punch. I like to compare it to a wooden hammer and a steel hammer. A wooden hammer being swung at 20 MPH would hurt like hell. But the irony is that a steel hammer going 10 MPH would hurt more because it's made of a denser material. Guys who are very heavy handed can do ridiculous damage without putting a lot of speed or snap into a shot. Natural clubbing power.

The third possibility is that the guy walked you into a punch. This happens a lot with counter punchers and guys who know how to set up very good shots that you aren't prepared for. Such a punch can be devastating even if it lacks speed because you simply didn't see it coming. They don't necessarily have to throw out a lightning fast explosive shot if they know your habits and can literally just do a basic punch and let you use your own momentum to deliver more power for them as you run right into it.

Some humans are just blessed with dynamite in there hands.

Some would argue Naseem Hamed didn't have A* technique but he had ridiculous power in both hands. How does a tiny fighter like that punch so much harder than much bigger fighters?

It cannot be explained with physics.

If it cannot be explained through physics it is not physical but metaphysical and since you cannot explain anything metaphysical nothing is metaphysical and therefore nothing metaphysical exists so everything is physical.

Secondarily, Hamed did not have power beyond his weight. Like they used to say he hit as hard as Lennox Lewis (lol) but if you think Lennox Lewis could catch Hamed's opponents with the same punches and the outcomes wouldn't be VERY different, you crazy AF. Dig?

You can have very little power but if you hit a man slap bang on the chin while he's coming towards you, you can knock him out. Technique matters too
