Most Powerful Signature Move in Boxing History ?

Who do you think had the most powerful signature move ? I'll go with Ruddock's Smash.

In all seriousness I'd go with Gavilan's bolo punch. Very flashy. No one did it quite like him.

When Ali was in his prime and used the pull counter landing flush on the jaw, it dropped guys like a sack of potatoes. Underrated power. Part of the damage is psychological because the jab is usually the first in a sequence of punches and the opponent often leads with a jab of their own. It's demoralizing to not only get countered before you can even get your combination going, but to get hit by your opponents rear hand (which is further away and takes longer to throw than the lead hand).

 

It was pretty sharp and pretty fast.

Jimmy Young: at least in one fight, sticking his head through the ropes v Ali. Power move? No. Memorable? Yes.

Not to bang on Earnie because I love Shavers but even while possessing a powerful uppercut in its own right, it was often aided and abetted by Earnie’s free hand holding behind the neck.

Along similar lines, Johnson totally clutching down on an opponent but being able to free his hand to rip a searing uppercut with little room required.

Foreman’s power shove. No mean part of George’s game. Poor Frazier, he came to fight, pure punching machine but he had Foreman pushing him back to keep him off and put him range or he had Ali clinching him down to stifle his inside game (at least in fight II). As if Joe wasn’t already at dimensional disadvantages against that pair than to have to also deal with unquestionably illegal moves.

The Manassa Mauler. Of course there was Dempsey roll but also the neat trick of punching his foe’s gonads into their stomachs then seamlessly shifting to finish them with a wholly legitimate punch. The ol’ one two. Completely intended. Okay, maybe only used so perfectly against the Boston Gob but it looked well practiced.

Finally, Fainting Phil Scott, awesome “power” move for multiple wins by DQ.

I don’t know if you meant a game of chicken — like two cars driving at each other full speed to see which driver is going to swerve — or not, but Roy Jr had fighting chickens and said he would watch them and pattern some of his moves by how they fought. The chickens would go in, pull out to set a trap and then attack when the other chicken came forward as they backed out.

 

LOL. Exactly! The steriliser then the pulveriser. I guess if D’Amato trained Jack and gave the punches numbers as he did Floyd, the nut punch might be assigned a symbolic zero and the left hook the number 5, with Cus shouting 0-5!!

 

I’m not up with Bowe’s parental status. Were there any little Riddicks on the scene pre Golota? I hope so. Of all bags, including heavy, speed and floor to ceiling, Andrew worked the ball bag best! He had a singular gift for it.
