I reckon its not so much that Taylor is not marketable its more that he is no nonsense ....just big fights and genuinely hasn't had enough fights to be marketed to the casuals. If you look at how popular Calzaghe and Hatton were they had loads of fights in the UK defending the WBO(Joe) umpteen times and Hatton defending that WBU (that he was happy to call a world title at the time yet dumped it like a hot potato when he got a real one lol) a million times and by the time they were in the big fights they had been on our TV's more times than than Jim Watt said "Full blooded Shot" lol. Covid doesn't really help either and back in the day of Hatton and JC they were in action every 3 or 4 months. I suspect Sky will put him straight to PPV which will cost him exposure even more.
Thats another thing, I remember Burns giving Crawford some tough rounds yet I believe Josh would beat any version of Burns more convincingly that Bud did. I just hope He takes a 'settle into 147'' fight or 2 before facing the top names. If anyone has earned that it's taylor. It's crazy to think he hasn't even had 20 fights yet lol
Seems like they're pushing Eubank Jr and Savannah Marshall more. Hope they give Taylor the big sky push nearer to the Catterall fight
I do not think you need to worry. Taylor vs Catterall will probably get massive publicity on SSN but it is true that it seems that Sky is more interested in Eubank Jr. and Savannah Marshall. Does anyone know the viewership figures from Sky Sports Boxing on October 16?
Taylor is top rank. He won't be the face for sky in the same way Fury is obviously it's biggest star but isn't a BT fighter
End day he is our best fighter. hes always in a good fight ,not a boring fighter , entertaining and look at his record takes on anyone not like the ppv con artists in recent times Can't understand why people don't get behind him
I think it's because fighters usually become stars on the way up and its not winning a title which then makes them box office. You look at Naz, Hatton, AJ these were all ppv draws before they got world title shots. To the general public Taylor in a way is just another world champion from the UK. Its not too late though, he just needs some mega fights.
Mega Fights WTF? Even @Mitch87 would struggle to pick holes in Josh Taylor's CV. Josh Taylor was a star from day 1 - he just lacked decent management and promotion in the early days.
Not criticising his cv. By mega fights I mean one where Sky can sell the opponent as one of the best p4p fighters in the world or one of the most dangerous. Gervonta Davies would be perfect. Spence and Crawford as well
Mitch won’t like him because he turned his lord and saviour down to join the best promotional company in the world. ‘Hasn’t fought the level of opposition Whyte has in the last 5 years.’
