it really was more of a 50/50 fight.Jones was a little bit the unknown as Toney had beaten better quality opponents
Toney was not himself in this fight,But Jones would have beaten him anyway in a more competitive fight
Well you’re asking if the scorecards are accurate and now indicating you’ve seen the fight. How did you score it? Yes Roy missed punches but he also THREW some punches and LANDED some punches, while James was completely nullified. Like the knockdown discussed: Roy dropped both hands and stuck his chin out. Rather than actually hit the guy, James decided to mimic the taunt … then Roy actually leaped in with a hook that landed clearly and Tony reeled backwards because he didn’t even have his feet set properly. It was a knockdown, but furthermore it encapsulates the fight because Roy Jr came to fight and James did not.
Roy Jones jr. is tailor made to fight James. I say this as the biggest James Toney mark out there. James defense against the left hook was mostly to lean over to his right to get under it. Roy's lead hook kept James ducking to his right, when James would duck Roy would rest his weight on him to keep him doubled over and prevent James from getting his inside game and counter punching going. All credit to Roy, who I think beats any version of James based on this dynamic alone. But losing 40lbs in camp certainly didn't help.
The hook caught him sure but Jones ran forward into Toney and drove him backwards Toney wasn't going down if that didn't take place
Indeed I have only seen Toney seriously hurt twice in his career. Against Reggie Johnson and Sam Peter
