Just a thought, but is there any very compelling reason why Wilder couldn't make the cruiserweight limit?

Not among the best fighters at the weight all time nor even close to best of his own generation, but I feel like he shouldn't be overlooked if the criterion is narrowed to "hardest punching" - honorable mention at the very least to Darnell "The Ding-A-Ling Man" Wilson.

No thoughts on The Dancing Destroyer? Dude could crack! The way he tried to outhustle and outpower Bowe with his punching power reminded me a lot of Satterfied vs Valdez

Herbie was a brilliant glass cannon. Power for days and a chin of glass. I think Haye might have hit harder but no much in it and I'm probably a bit more biased as I saw every Haye fight and only a few of HH's

In your opinion...How does Dwight Muhammad Qawi rate as a puncher ?

Really hard to be honest, idk if anyone ever said that Qawi hit hard. He usually would beat the crap outta his opponents till the referee stops it. So far I think he's a skilled puncher like Roman Gonzales, but could hardly "bang"

Hide annoyed me; he could have and should have been more.

The 190 limit and relatively poor pay days did mean in his pomp Cruiser was off the table, but still as a Heavy...

The media and his management got caught up with the KO streak at the start of his career. He scored so many knockouts because he was so much better than the opposition he fought. But he went straight from fighting fringe top 50 in the world fighters, to the fringes of top 10, without learning from those in-between.

I think the management were a little freaked after the Peterson scare, so tried straight away to get the bigger fights. He would have benefitted more by fighting a few experienced old boys; perhaps Weaver at first then a Page or Williams. They would have been fights he would have won, but more competitive than a Wimpy Halstead. I also think a Williams may have taken him to the final bell, which would also have helped Herbie's development.

But I have gone off on a tangent; power wise, yes anyone outside the thirty or so best Heavies and ten best Cruisers of the time, were being flattened, Hide was very impressive against that level.

But as you mention with Bowe; Hide did not have any other tactics, and if you stood up to him or intimidated him, you beat him. Because Hide was not a powerhouse, he had exquisite timing, that took out so many lower level fighters.

    That they remember...

Gene Fullmer when talking about the Robinson knockout said he did not feel a thing. Indeed all does remember was sitting on his stool suggesting to his corner for someone as old as Robinson he is full of energy, running around like a lunatic between rounds; it was then he was told what had happened!

    BEST PUNCHER
Herbie Hide: You’re not going to believe this [but] I would have to say Herbie Hide. … He hit me and I thought, “ Oh s—. I can’t allow this guy to hit me again because I don’t know what I’ll see next.” Initially I was trying to box him and he was real fast. I said I can’t box him because he got me beat, so I fought him.
