Called one of America’s top dive bars, located a half block from Times Square, Jimmy’s Corner is a renowned boxing bar that closed in 2020 when owner Jimmy Glenn died from complications related to COVID-19. Glenn was a cut man, cornerman, operated the old Times Square Gym a couple of blocks over for some years and he lost a decision to Floyd Patterson in the amateurs. It’s the No. 1 boxing bar in the USA, maybe the world. The walls are lined with fight posters and photos and such. I’ve made sure to drop by and have a cold beverage every time I’ve trekked to NYC and I’m stoked that it’s back. Per Twitter, it has reopened. If you haven’t been and you get the chance … it’s worth your time if you’re in New York. It’s a minor bucket list item to many boxing fans.
Excellent news! Great bar, Jimmy will be missed ,but the tradition lives on,ps wonderful juke box too!
Good. I was in NYC two months ago and it was closed. I’ll be back soon so will definitely go back and throw back a beer or 10.
A good friend stopped in a couple weeks ago and told me that Jimmy's son was behind the bar and running things. So great to hear that they're back.
I think I’ll be there in the spring if all goes well and that’s the first place on my must-visit list!
Drop me a line when you're in town, Chris. I am a native New Yorker and would love to have a pint with you. Cheers
I live within 20 minutes walk from there for many years, & was only vaguely aware of it. I am happy to meet anyone there if'n you are going! Let me know.
