Welcome to the future of boxing. Stacked cards of top 50/50 fights without the financial restrictions of Sky. Take a bow in front of your empty stadium Mr Eddie Hearn
Match room fan boys were dissing the sky card a few weeks ago lmao. Just the savanna Marshall fight was better than this drivel. Puddings vs puddings and then 2 little ladies pitter pattying.
British boxing in general is on its arse. The last 3 shows from “Boxxer”, Matchroom and Queensbury have been nothing short of a disgrace, individually and collectively.
When AJ gets taken out brutally by Usyk, the fact Fury will never fight again, and Benn and Eubank (Conor and Jr) are soon exposed for good, ummm yeah- it’s over.
You look at the top 15 British fighters on Boxrec. Tyson Fury Great fighter, no debating his abilities but he’s just not active enough. Anthony Joshua He’s been great for British boxing but his reign is over. The rematch against Usyk will probably be the final nail in the coffin. Callum Smith Great on his day, again not active enough. Josh Taylor Probably the one British boxer in his prime and still in ascendency. Dillian Whyte him making the top 5 says it all. Eubank jr Never really done anything of note. Challenged Groves for a world title and that’s it. 32 now. Brook and Saunders Pair of these come next. If neither fight again they won’t be missed. Galahad World champion. Very good at what he does but my word he’s boring. Okolie Probably deserves more respect than he gets. Made good improvements since joining Shane. World champion, deadly power. One of the few in ascendency. Chisora Makes 11th! Liam Smith Been an underrated fighter throughout his career but he’s definitely descending now. John Ryder 33 now. 4 fights in 3 years. Age, inactivity. Joe Joyce 36 now. Still an effective fighter. Would cause problems for most if not all of the top heavy’s but he’s probably got one big hurrah in him. Lee Selby somehow rounds off the top 15. The main problem with this list is that you could have done it 4/5/6/7 years ago and it would probably have been the same names! Nobody has came through and done anything of note. 4/5 years ago you would have looked at Fowler, Buatsi, Yarde, Dubois, Catterall, Liam Williams, Barrett, Parker, Josh Kelly etc and expected at least a few of them to come through but none of them have pushed on and made the grade. You’re looking at Connor Benn who most people said wouldn’t make it past area level and this new batch of Olympians to turn over and fast track to the top.
Fairly damming that. You have Archie Sharp screaming for Shakur yet his biggest win is Lyon Woodstock or Declan Geraghty which were 6 and 4 fights back. Someone like him could have been in decent entertaining fight yet he has sat on a ranking waiting for a shot he can't win. Boxers like him don't help the sport
Eddie Hearn raised boxing and is now killing boxing. He basically gave the sport a bump, actually it was sort of buzzing for a while but like everything sooner or later it comes crashing down. We are on the way down now, the crash will come when AJ is done.
I don’t understand the logic of wheeling Molina over as a body. The card already stinks and is headlined by a women’s fight that 99% of people watching boxing aren’t interested in and Craig Richards vs a nobody. So they had to make that Babic fight something special and get someone durable and to be competitive. Not a lay down in early rounds body. That is where Eddie dropped a bollock. In fact many would have cancelled the card when the Whyte fight fell through. Couldn’t they get Wallin to still fight too against a stand in? Where was the stand in for the Whyte Wallin fight?
Getting Molina over for a novice like Babic isn’t a problem. The problem is getting Molina in and pretending he’s some sort of superstar and promoting Babic as if he’s something he’s not. He’s a poor novice who was 8 - 0 against nobodies. This fight against a “named” opponent is fine but further down the card. Instead this was promoted as If it was the main event with 2 top heavyweights going at it in a barnstormer.
This place was calling for dazn to come in and buzzing when they did. It's been a disaster for boxing
British boxing is a disaster. It’s not a DAZN problem, a Sky problem, or a Queensbury problem. There’s a severe lack of talent. The current crop are all towards the end of their careers or there’s been fighters who’ve already retired like Campbell, Corolla etc. Then out of a whole cycle of Olympians only Okolie of all people has made the grade. Whether DAZN existed or not the others would still be struggling.
It's a dilution problem. We have three "major" broadcasters when at the moment there's only enough established talent for one and a half. Dazn is a major part of that reason.
