According to Hearn Says he's lost over £200,000 by going ahead with the show https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/boxing/eddie-hearn-matchroom-whyte-wallin-25338388.amp It's the exact same show that was always on, except now he's removed the most expensive part. He's saved at least a million by not having to pay Whyte and Wallin, so how has he managed to lose money? More bull****? Attempting to win favour with fans after serving up shite to them and making himself sound like a maytr?
I do not understand at all that it can make a loss with the many many millions DAZN pays to Eddie Hearn / Matchroom?
As far as I know, Boxing Promoters have 2 or 3 different accounts. It could be that Eddie Hearn has lost money on the official account ?
Combo of ticket refunds and rights fees from DAZN. There's no way he could invoice DAZN the same as he would have for a Whyte-Wallin headline card. The outgoings of venue hire and TV production costs (Matchroom are in charge of this now, don't forget) remain the same. It's no coincidence that they're suddenly putting on a new show in Liverpool in December, you'd imagine a lot of the surrendered DAZN fees from last night will end up paying for that.
Yep this. clearly there were a lot of empty seats which you don't see at a Whyte fight usually and obviously DAZN are not going to pay the same fee for this as the original card.
£200 losses to make millions by fleecing Otto Wallin to get Dirty Dillian yet another PPV windfall. Hearn is looking a bit lost lately. It's almost as if the behemoth that is Sky Sports played a bigger part in his success than his wide boy routine and cheeky banter. Buses driving round with billboards promoting your shows isn't quite the same as a sports network dedicating an entire weeks content to building them up. Sky have the power to make fat blokes throwing darts at a board a national sport. Eddie got far too cocky and took them for granted.
Would be kind of ironic if Hearn ended up making the same mistake Warren did, jumping ship from SKY thinking the new player in town was a better option only for SKY to hitch their wagon to a another promoter and make them the premiere boxing promoter in the country.
I'm pretty sure Sky gave Warren the boot. I think it was when Hatton left him and Calzaghe was still taking garbage fights like rematching Mario Veit that no one was watching so they finally had enough.
Poor old Eddie £200K is chicken feed to what he will recoup from saving Whyte from a possible defeat to maintain a PPV for Whyte to challenge for WBC title ! I am sure EH thinks the average boxing fan is stupid.
I’ve said this a few times but it’s clear DAZN is a money laundering operation and similar is rife in boxing. MTK another example.
His old man on ifl said went from about 13k sold to 5k after refunds. Not every card makes a profit and seems this one was hardly selling out before the main event dropped out anyway.
