lots of people forget Tony he was underrated he could compete in any era and do good

that match did showed how great mike was being able to dodge punches from a fast puncher like that at the pace tony was throwing is real tough to do mike defense was super great

Stopping Joe no easy task. An elite not only puncher but a finisher like Foreman did it but he had to put an uncommon amount of punishment and Frazier still got up.
Other than Tyson himself none of those 80s contenders would be able to pull it off. Knocking him down perhaps but as a green prospect Frazier showed against Oscar Bonavena Joe Frazier is not going anywhere

In some ways Joe fought a "take 2 give 1" style, which wasn´t much of a problem fighting 195-205 fellows. When he reached up close, he banged away for many shots and compensate for all the punches he took getting inside. Add his toughness and recuperative abilities, you´re able to overcome punishment and win later in the fight.
In the 90s for example, fighting 225lb guys with heavier hands and more strength, a game plan like that becomes much much tougher.
I believe Mike Tyson (early career) and Floyd Patterson took way less risks, but landing their punches too.

Its not that Joe Frazier wasn´t capable. It worked very well for him, so he did what he had to do. Like 70s Foreman banging away, looking sloppy and open. It works against the majority, until someone the name of Ron Lyle hits you back. Watch the Foreman - Frazier 2 bout, you´ll wonder how tricky Joe Frazier could sneak in a punch and not getting hit. There are MT sparring sessions on YT, just boxing & jabbing, moving backwards and sidewards alot without getting tagged. Fans shout it like these guys were one-way robots. But I´ll assure you, they were pros and very versatile if they had to ;)

Good post but Frazier versatile? No, he was a forward moving short reached guy who could only fight effectively one way.

Versatile in relation to what? I think thats a better question. Then yes, a 5'11" fighter with 73" fighting HWs has a handicap in therms of style options. Then again, there are the James Toney boxers.

Nevertheless, watch Foreman - Frazier 2 or MT sparring, they had more skills than "oneway trains".

He's no James Toney when it comes to defense. Actually Toney didn't have much of a jab either but at least it was a punch he could use.

the people who say that lie of mike and joe only can fight 1 way is just not watching or blind

it's easy to see mike wasnt just straight forward like they lie saying same with joe

being literal I never seen joe just fight straight forward like they lie saying he did when they say that its said like he went forward using no upperbody movement like louis era and before did which he never did

joe would duck his head constantly so no he never did just walk straight forward like the odd lie says
