Untrue. No matter who does it if he beats the current TRUE champion he is then the new champion. Period. Foreman koed Moore who beat Holy, who beat Bowe.....etc. Briggs no matter what one may think of him got the decision and he was the true champion until Lewis beat him.

Would you guys make peak Frazier a favorite over David Tua?

    Terrible matchup for Joe, no?

@Perry Mr. Trump now up for more posting & less politics ?

Not really. Bonavena was just as good as Tua with similar attributes. Joe survives him. Although it was a rough bout for him twice. The second time was closer to a prime Frazier and he won it better the second time.

Do you see the aging Zora Folley dropping Tua for an 8-count?
Do you see Chuvalo staggering Tua?
Do you see 194 Jimmy Ellis flooring him twice?
    ......

Frazier would outwork Tua to cleae decision. Tua is no Foreman, he doesn't have massive reach advantage either.

Prob not but don’t think that will help him win. Louis and Frazier weren’t hard to knock down doesn’t mean I think Tua is beating Jow Louis. They both usually always got up. Bonavena was just as good as Tua prob hit just as hard. Think it’s a tough fight for both men but Joe was better. I also think Zorra and Ellis easily outboximg Tua. They don’t have to knock him down.

I can see Tua being a dangerous proposition for a lot of great fighters.

Based on styles, this would be a phone booth fight. I’d favor Tua by stoppage since he has the edge in durability and power

dave wins dont get the pick for Joe it's odd nobody beat destroyer Dave by coming forward to him they have to keep range and have good defense while using it joe didnt fight that way so why pick him he loses fast by ko

In a 12 round match, Tua. Joe will be there to fight him. Not the best way to beat Tua.

Tua punched as hard as 70's Foreman if not harder and Frazier would be too anthropometrically and athletically limited to avoid Tua for long. Tua was "only" 20+ lbs heavier than Frazier but he had a vastly bigger frame: with modern weight cutting and dieting Frazier could make LHW. Tua had an iron chin and was not visually impaired, Frazier was splattered all over the ring and stopped inside two rounds in his prime by a big stiff plodder, was also dropped by Bonavena and a sub-200 lbs nobody called Mike Bruce. To top it all off, Frazier seriously lacked power against anyone who wasn't a cruiser/LHW, proven by his dismal KO record against more modern (albeit small) heavyweights.

The obvious conclusion is that Frazier would get destroyed by Tua in similar fashion to how he was both times against Foreman. But Frazier beat Ali and gave him hell every time, so many boxing fans feel they have to pretend otherwise.
