What's the cutoff for "star"? In main events on TV?

    So, couldn't say Chon Zepeda?

    Yoka.

Waiting to see him against difficult opponents. Probably get his glass shattered.

I will be following Jaron Ennis with interest. I want to see, if he turns out to be the real thing.

Yoka is a French star (and was formerly an international star in the amateurs); Eggington is a British star.

I'm really unclear on the criteria. What's a "big name"? One known by casuals? Because then you're only really talking Canelo and...(ugh) Jake Paul, if we're to consider Mayweather and Pacquiao retired.

If we're talking known to people that follow boxing enough to post on a message board, then aren't pretty much all top 5ish ranked contenders big names? So, is Dillian Whyte a star? How about Erickson Lubin?

Not a household name like Tank, Charlo, Canelo, GGG etc. Just someone who could be top 20 or a domestically skilled guy who always rocks your boxes.

    Inoue?

    He's not really a star...

See that's what I mean. Inoue absolutely is a household name to boxing fans. However, virtually no boxers are household names to the general public.

My friends who don't follow boxing at all know Canelo and even Lomachenko. At least their names and the face to go with it. Usyk and Inoue, no.

Babic is definitely interesting, he just goes gorilla style doesn't care if he loses... Which is good, because he caught some big shots against Molina.

I like watching Benn, Marku, Felix Alvarado & Fundora.

Ortiz JR is probably to mainstream for this thread, but he's one I'm watching closely.

Right, so is that what OP meant? "Without naming ...two guys"? Or are considering Vergil Ortíz a star? He's certainly on track within the sphere of boxing fandom to become one, but whether he can reach that crossover point of "people that literally don't follow the sport whatsoever have probably heard of him", eh...that's a high threshold in modern times. You can number those on a single hand in each generation and have fingers left over.

If we're calling Tank Davis a star, then how the heck is, say, Chocolatito not one despite being ridiculously more accomplished (not to mention having featured a few times on the former mecca of televised boxing, HBO WCB, in their final days)
