Canelo vs Trout - Controversial win for Canelo. No rematch.

Canelo vs Lara - Controversial win for Canelo. No rematch.

Canelo vs GGG 2 - Controversial win for Canelo. No rematch.

Only reason Canelo vs GGG 2 happened is because the first fight ended in a draw.

    Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather vs Castillo 1 - Mayweather gets a controversial win, could move on and fight someone else but instead chooses to give Castillo a immediate rematch.

Mayweather vs Maidana 1 - Mayweather gets a controversial win, could move on and fight someone else but chooses to give Maidana a immediate rematch.

It seems like the second Canelo gets the nod from the judges he moves on with his career. I think it delegitimizes Canelos career, not correcting his wrongs and proving he is the better fighter like Mayweather did.

    Thoughts?

You make a reasonable point. How much this will impede on Canelo's legacy remains to be seen. Assuming there are no other instances such as this and he finishes his career on a high note, he'll probably get away with the benefit of a doubt.

Then we have whinging that he's rematching instead of moving on to bigger fights...

Can't win either way in this game with the fickle fans.

The Lara fight was so bad nobody wanted a rematch, same with Rigo's recent performance vs Casimero, while these fights were very competitive they were such abysmal fights that there wouldn't be much willingness from networks to air a rematch.

The Trout fight though probably warranted a rematch but Canelo fought Mayweather next instead which lets be honest was a much tougher fight than rematching Trout and Trout then lost to Lara, which probably killed any chance of a rematch with Trout and Canelo fought Lara instead which again was him picking a tougher opponent than Trout.

So while Canelo didn't rematch either of these 2 guys, the circumstances around those fights, make it so it's understandable.

I personally don’t think there was anything controversial about Canelo’s victory over Lil G. I had him winning both fights. Floyd beat Castillo and Maidana in both fights.

Thinking outside the box but have you considered that a close fight doesn’t equate to it being “controversial”…or nah?

I actually agree with this, no one wanted to see a rematch between him and Lara, and Trout was simply the victim of being a small fish that did better than expected, I thought he won but even as someone that thought he won, it was close enough (especially with the KD) that I could see why Canelo got the nod and could live with it.

Why would he rematch those guys? Only his haters think they were controversial. Trout was a clear win. Lara was somewhat close, but Lara ran and made the fight a stinker, he has no fans, and even Lara's own stable mates thought he lost the fight, only Canelo haters think Lara won.

Why didn't Golovkin give Jacobs and Derevyanchenko rematches?
Why didn't De La Hoya give Sturm, Whitaker and Quartey a rematch?
Why didn't Leonard give Hagler a rematch?
Why did it take Pacquiao 4 years and then 8 years to give JMM a rematch?
Why didn't Floyd give De La Hoya a rematch?

Answer: Because they don't have too.

    Let me answer.
GGG beat both of those guys in good fights. Nobody thought he lost.
De La Hoya was making an attempt into the middleweight division and was given a gift vs Strum but you leave out he was already signed to fight Hopkins. So he does and gets knocked out.
He isn't going to give Sturm a rematch because A. He got lucky the first time. B. His middleweight experiment didn't go to well.
Hagler RETIRED. Leonard was inactive right after the Hagler bout once again.
Back to De La Hoya. When he beat Quartey what did IKE do? He went missing for almost 1 year.
Oscar was never going to get in that ring with Pea again trust me.
Manny moved up to jr.lightweight and as soon as JMM moved up to jr.lightweight they fought 2 years latter. Same with the other fight.
Oscars was a ONE time fight. He came out of retirement to fight Mayweather and lost. He promptly retired and had another ill advised comeback a YEAR latter.
