Also, I have more scorecards so I can actually contribute again to this great thread again (doesn't get enough love). Other stupid threads on classic are tiring, so I'll stick around here.

You’re going to waste time watching old classic fights instead of getting in on that fresh Marciano discussion?

Oscar De La Hoya vs 'Yori Boy' Campas

    DLH : YBC

1: 10 - 9 Clear DLH round. Jabbing, moving and combos landing flush. Immediate clash of heads stuns Campas.
2: 10 - 9 DLH picking his spots but Campas getting closer.
    3: 10 - 9 Similar pattern. Slightly closer.
4: 10 - 9 Close round. DLH the dominant ring general tho.
    5: 10 - 9 Clear DLH round.
6: 9 - 9 (-1 Campas) Campas more effective, parrying, deflecting. DLH inside too long.

    59 - 54

    7: TKO Corner steps in.

    Notes:
    • What was up with Campas' gumshield? It kept falling out.
    • What an odd ending. Campas was getting lit up, though.
    • Vintage DLH performance. Campas was ballsy. I think the early head clash affected him.

BACK AT IT! Moved and have stable internet, so I decided to make myself upset and watch Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield I again, because... LET'S WATCH SOME BS!

LIVE FROM MADISON SQUARE GARDEN to Unify and declare the undisputed lineal heavyweight champion of the world.
WBC Champion Lennox Lewis at 33 years old, and at 246 lbs. Lewis came in 34-1 (27 KOs).
Evander Holyfield, the IBF and WBA Champion at 36 years old (basically past prime) weighing in at 215 lbs. Holyfield was 36-3 (25 KOs).

On paper, a great fight. A Competitive Fight, remember Bowe vs Holyfield? Should be a great time. Ohh that first fight was 7 years prior? Damn. And Lennox is has been dominate and avenged his past loss and hadn't really showed signs of slowing down yet? Damn.

Referee Arthur Macanty Jr in the house, so it will be a fair fight.

Lewis is being cornered by former Holyfield trainer Emmanuel Steward which is kinda awkward but I get it.
Lewis's entrance was weird at the end cause of some crowd fighting idk. But Holyfield got big sing along cheers. 50/50 crowd which was neat.

    HERE WE GO!

    Holyfield - Lewis
Rd1= 9-10 (Good start by Lewis, utilized range and a dead weight fall lol)
Rd2= 9-10 (Aggressive jab by Lewis and overall better ring generalship)
Rd3= 10-9 (The round that Holyfield predicted he would win in, he was close lol, but no. If he were 7 years younger, he probably would have finished Lewis, MAYBE, not 100% but a better shot)
Rd4= 9-10 (Coach - "Don't throw hooks, they won't work" Evander- *proceeds to miss with hooks*lol. Lewis outboxes Holyfield.
Rd5= 9-10 (Holyfield was hurt, like worse than commentators gave Lewis credit for. Great round)
Rd6= 9-10 (great combination around the 2 minute mark. Lewis closed better.)
Rd7= 9-10 (a big right hand following the great from Lewis and some Body shots. REF DODGES HUGE HOOK lol)
Rd8= 9-10 (Lewis just kept picking Holyfield off)
Rd9= 9-10 (More head movement and combinations but nothing really lands for Holyfield)
Rd10= 10-9 (The best Holyfield round, more active and cleaner shots, and a patented Holyfield headbutt.)
Rd11= 9-10 (Lewis outboxed, countered, and had a good round)
Rd12= 9-10 (A great hook can get you around the block, a great jab can take you around the world. Lewis's jab won this round)

    Total= 110-118

Holyfield landed 52/171 Jabs from 130/385 total punches
Lewis landed 187/364 Jabs (DAMN) from 348/613 total punches

Letterman: 111-117 (Sure, lenient but sure)
    Actual Results:
    115-113 (pain)
    113-116 (a little much)
    115-115 (no)
    A SPLIT DECISION DRAW

Top 7 worse decisions ever. Context of everything and the state of the heavyweight division, history was prevented this night and ruined. The judges had it wrong, period. In comparison, this was worse than Fury vs Wilder I's decision imo.

Dude, I won't dispute your opinion, as we all have one. However, why did you score rounds 7 and 9 a 9-9 score? Was there some point deductions I didn't know about or were you aiming for an Even round of 10-10?

    Keep it up kiddo.

This is the best thread on the forum IMO. I contribute as I can but read the reports religiously … sometimes I find great gems that I haven’t seen or interesting takes on ones I have.

Vito Antuofermo (c) vs. Marvin Hagler, 15 rounds for the WBC and WBA middleweight championship on Nov. 30, 1979, at Cesars Palace Sports Pavilion in Las Vegas.

This was a long time coming for me. I originally scored this a draw when it happened but I was a young lad just starting to score fights and while I had seen it since, I never knuckled down and revisited it. Tonight I did.

    First, some background:

This was televised in primetime on ABC on a Friday night along with Ray Leonard vs. Wilfred Benitez and Marvin Johnson vs. Victor Galindez — one of the best nights of televised boxing in history, really. What a show!

Antuofermo, 45-3-1 (19), is 26 years old and making the first defense of the title he won from Hugo Corro. His purse is $190K. Hagler, 46-2-1 (38), is 27 and making his first title challenge after winning 20 in a row, 18 by KO.

Both weigh 158 1/2 pounds. Hagler is a 4-1 favorite. He is rated No. 1 by the WBA and No. 2 by the WBC, with Alan Minter rated tops by the latter.

    My scoring:

1: Antuofermo 10-9 — He’s the aggressor, lands some body shots and roughhoused Marvin around a good bit. Hagler lands one good left but mostly misses.

2: Hagler 10-9 — Close, Marvin gets his jab on track, lands a few good lefts (he’s mostly southpaw the first two rounds) but Vito closes strong.

    3: Even 10-10 — Neither is effective.

4: Hagler 10-9 — Close again but Marvin lands the cleaner punches. He starts switching from orthodox to lefty and does so for the remainder of the fight, although he spends more time southpaw.

5: Antuofermo 10-9 — Vito comes on strong with right leads and is all over Hagler from start to finish. Most decisive round so far.

6: Hagler 10-9 — Marvin controls the distance and lands some really nice combinations against the aggressive swarmer. Vito is cut under his right eye (by fight’s end he will be cut over and under both eyes, six cuts in all that will require 25 stitches).

7: Antuofermo 10-9 — Close but Vito outworks him.

8: Antuofermo 10-9 — Hagler gets on his bicycle but doesn’t land much while Vito gains momentum as he wings punches and lands combinations to the head and body. He’s not pretty but he’s productive.

9: Antuofermo 10-9 — Similar to the eighth but a bit closer. Now Vito is cut under both eyes and over his left.

10: Even 10-10 — Hagler jabbing, Antuofermo mauling.

11: Hagler 10-9 — What a great round. They go to war, brawling for 3 minutes as Hagler decides it’s time to make a stand. Close but Marvin rallies late.

12: Antuofermo 10-9 — And Hagler begins to sag just a bit as Vito comes on strong late to take a close round.

13: Antuofermo 10-9 — Vito with a big round, batters Hagler around just a bit.

14: Hagler 10-9 — Marvin edges it with a big rally but Vito works for 3 minutes. Hagler is cut over his right eye.

15: Hagler 10-9 — Toe to toe, Hagler rips shot and shows some dominance to close the show.

    My scorecard: Antuofermo 144-143.

Official scores: 145-141 Hagler, 143-142 Antuofermo, 143-143 even — draw.

The Associated Press had it 143-142 for Antuofermo. The Ring had it 144-141 for Hagler.

The narrative around this fight has shifted over the years. A lot of the initial reaction was ‘so this is the guy everybody’s been calling the best middleweight in the world and uncrowned champion?’ This was expected to be a coronation for Hagler and he never quite stepped up and showed what we would later see him become — maybe he paced himself a bit too much in his first title fight, maybe he was tight being in the limelight for the first time … whatever. The later narrative is that Marvin got robbed (and there was some of that then, but I think it’s way too close no matter how you see it to call it a robbery … to many debatable rounds that could go either way depending on what you like).

Now it’s easy to see Hagler as the winner here — his best work is prettier while Vito is more of a caveman (apologies to Don Lee). If they were artists, Marvin would be a precise sculptor and Antuofermo would be one of those guys who splash paint everywhere to create some kind of messy abstract that you look at and can’t quite figure out if it’s really art or not … but in no way was he dominated.

I had two even rounds. Give them both to Marvin and he wins narrowly. Give them both to Vito and he wins by a close but comfortable margin. Split them and I still have Antuofermo narrowly.

But the real shame here is that it’s forgotten just what a great fight this is with a lot of shifts of momentum and action. Maybe not an all-time epic but one of the better middleweight title scraps in my lifetime and a grueling 15-round affair when those were a thing. It’s Marvin’s toughest fight in his prime, I think, and along with Duran and Mugabi you have to say Antuofermo on this night was his toughest challenge in a title fight — and I’d give Vito the nod over the other two on how close it was.

Wilfredo Benitez v Roberto Duran (Jr. middleweight title)

Watched this live in a bar that had cable back in the day (sounds so quaint) and haven't seen it since. Probably because it was sad to see Duran so outclassed. But here we go.

    Round 1: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 2: 10-9 Duran
    Round 3: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 4: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 5: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 6: 10-9 Duran
    Round 7: 10-10 Even
    Round 8: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 9: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 10: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 11: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 12: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 13: 10-10 Even
    Round 14: 10-9 Benitez
    Round 15: 10-9 Benitez

Total: 148-139 Benitez (actual scores: 144-141, 143-142 and 145-141 all for Benitez)

First off, the scores I felt were ridiculously close. I was a big Duran fan but nostalgia doesn't creep its way into my score. I felt the wire services scores (AP - 147-138 and UPI - 148-139 both for Benitez) were far more relevant than the judges cards.

Secondly, Benitez was absolutely brilliant in this fight and it was amazing how as the fight progressed he actually had the effrontery of attacking Duran's body. Just a brilliant performance.

Lastly, in boxing it always amazes me how fortunes can change. This was just about the last brilliant performance of Benitez' career as he lost to Hearns and then made that foray into the middleweight class where he was mauled by Hamsho and went downhill from there. Meanwhile, Larry Merchant stated during the fight that Duran said he would retire if he lost this bout. And in his next bout he lost to Kirkland Laing and I recall stating he should retire. Who would have thought from the Benitez fight he would go on to have 42 more fights and have brilliant performances against Cuevas, Moore, Hagler and Barkley? Not me anyway. Boxing is a funny business.

Duran-Cuevas is one of the most career-reviving, new-lease-on-life fights in boxing history, really. To think Duran could have gone anywhere from the Laing fight but off to pasture or opponents-ville is astounding.

You know my card because I've already messaged it to you but I'm posting it here now. Scored this last night. Fantastic fight as well.

Thomas Hearns v Sugar Ray Leonard 2

    1 10-10
2 10-9 (close again. Hearns caught Leonard right at the end of the round)
3 10-8 (Leonard down. Clear round for Tommy)
4 9-10 (first round for Sugar)
5 9-10 (big round for Leonard. 10-8 is possible but I thought Hearns fought back enough to keep it only a one point round for Leonard)
6 9-10 (close. Leonard edged it)
7 10-10 (difficult to score. Hearns has Leonard in trouble early before Leonard works his way back into the round to take a share of it)
    8 10-9
9 9-10 (classic Leonard. He was probably losing the round before he turned it by wobbling Hearns right at the end)
10 9-10 (close but Leonard did the better work)
    1110-8 (Leonard down again)
12 9-10 (clear Leonard round but not 10-8)
    Hearns 114-114 Leonard

    Marcos Maidana vs Adrien Broner

    MM : AB

1: 10 - 9 Maidana swarming, feinting up and down very well.
2: 10 - 8 I love how Maidana turns that body jab to a hook upstairs.
    3: 10 - 9 A bit closer. Rough.
4: 10 - 9 Maidnana pounding the body in the second half.
5: 10 - 10 Broner working his way in a bit. Very accurate puncher... When he throws.
    6: 9 - 10 Maidana less active.

    59 - 55

    7: 9 - 10 Good action. Close.
8: 9 - 8 (-1 Maidana) Beautiful left hook knockdown. Maidana headbutts - point deducted.
    9: 10 - 9 Broner taking a hiding.
10: 10 - 9 Broner only pot shotting and pushing, really.
11: 10 - 9 Maidana landing some huge clubbing shots late. Punch after the bell from Broner.
    12: 9 - 10 Great finale.

    57 - 55

    TOTAL: 116 - 110 MAIDANA

    Notes:
    • Broner at Hopkins level cringe milking that headbutt, especially considering he constantly elbows.
    • Possibly the most satisfying fight I've ever seen.
    • Fair play though, Broner is tough.
    • One of the few times where the brawler outsmarts the boxer.
