the scorecard i made for S.R. Leonard vs Hearns II (1989)

Should be an interesting back and forth. Even rounds are 10-10 though, unless one guy wins the round but then gets a point taken. Then it's 9-9.

Yes, and I was shocked to hear a well-known boxing journalist on the radio recently making the very same error regarding scoring, without being corrected.

 

I thought Hearns won by a couple rounds. close but clear

 

Hell no. Hearns clearly won.

 

Hearns deserved this. Very good, competitive fight. They both had some moments though.

 

Just posted it in the scorecard thread but posting here too. I had it 114-113 Hearns last time. It's a closer fight to score than the impression you get from just watching it (when it feels like Hearns probably won with those 2 KDs).

2 10-9 (close again. Hearns caught Leonard right at the end of the round)
3 10-8 (Leonard down. Clear round for Tommy)
4 9-10 (first round for Sugar)
5 9-10 (big round for Leonard. 10-8 is possible but I thought Hearns fought back enough to keep it only a one point round for Leonard)
6 9-10 (close. Leonard edged it)
7 10-10 (difficult to score. Hearns has Leonard in trouble early before Leonard works his way back into the round to take a share of it)
8 10-9
9 9-10 (classic Leonard. He was probably losing the round before he turned it by wobbling Hearns right at the end)
10 9-10 (close but Leonard did the better work)
1110-8 (Leonard down again)
12 9-10 (clear Leonard round but not 10-8)
Hearns 114-114 Leonard

 

Nice job on your first scorecard man. I hope you learnt a bit about scoring criteria, effectiveness etc. Good job.

 

I like it Hearns by an absolutelknats whisker.
After watching it the first time, I assumed the decision would be Tommy's.
But he seemed happy enough with the draw. To him, it was a moral victory, he'd dropped him and Tommy was still standing at the end.
