Plant has fast hands, fast feet, is defensively responsible, very athletic, possesses an excellent jab, throws combinations, skillful. He is much better than Saunders and has all the attributes to bother Canelo. There is no opponent of BjS that Plant cannot beat.

 

It's a good solid credible win, nothing more nothing less.

Beating Plant in itself isn't a fantastic achievement but they're going to flog the **** out of "Undisputed" for years to come as if he's conquered half of planet earth.

 

See you say all this, but what I see is a dude with a B- grade resume at best who's looked okay against pretty useless competition for the most part.

This is basically the same problem I have with you saying Tank would beat Taylor - there's what might possibly happen and there's what's reasonable to believe on the basis of available evidence.

I simply cannot board this train you're on where ranking fighters as realistic contenders against the elites when their resumes do bugger all to support that assertion.

I don't think he's better than Saunders at all - and Saunders is more proven, has attributes that would trouble Canelo if he were able to operate at that level... He just wasn't there, and I'm seeing no reason to think Plant will be any closer at all.

A lot in your post which I am enjoying because you make your points well Sir and more importantly with civility. When it comes to resumes the truth is you can only perform and beat what is in front of you. The guys Plant has fought at world level have been good guys including former world champions and the essential consideration is he won and looked good stopping them, beating them up and doing a job on them. They may not have been Canelo as of yet but few fighters are. I take issue with you saying Plant’s opponents were useless. This is something some fans try to do about boxers records. This is not true especially with regards to Plants opponents. They may not be ATGs but ATG’s are rare.

Tank has fought a high level of competition. He has beaten world class fighters in 3 divisions including former world champions in real rare style. Josh Taylor is a very good fighter and the truth is there was not much between JT and Prograis another excellent fighter. The question is do I think JT can move up to Welterweight and beat the top dogs including the likes of Danny Garcia and Ugas the answer is an emphatic No. Some of the fans downplay Tank’s outstanding record but there is a reason the so called elites call him out but don’t make the fights. Tank is a rare fighter cut from a different. It takes a special fighter to knock out the great Leo Santa Cruz a distinguished multi division world champion. You saw how Tank dealt with and took the title from reigning world champion Pedraza. The heralded Lomachenko could not do what Tank did to Pedraza and could not make him say Nomaschenko.

Saunders had nothing to trouble Canelo with and has always been overrated. I told you and others all of this before the fight and it played out exactly as I said it would. He went life and death with a very green Chris Eubank Jr who gave away the first half of the fight before coming on. As for your words about if Saunders could operate at that level is like the famous sayings:

“If my Aunty had a dick she would be my uncle” or

“the other guy was lucky because he was just a bit faster, stronger and better skilled than I was”.

Plant is a superior athlete and fighter to Billy Jane Saunders in every way but what is more important is that he has the right spirit and is coming to win which Saunders did not come in with. Saunders did not believe he would win and deep down in his heart came for the big pay day. In negotiation Plant will not allow himself to be shortchanged with a short training camp, got it to be a Showtime and PBC event promoted by TGB and its in Las Vegas not Texas more of an even playing field. Canelo latest victims such as Yildirim, Callum Smith and BJS did not come there to win. Even Kovalev who was out boxing Canelo was shop worn had been knocked out twice by SOG Andre Ward and the other bloke whose name slips my mind and the unready inexperienced Yarde almost had him out before he depleted his tank. I think Canelo is a fantastic great fighter. I am a big fan of his but I do know Plant is a serious danger to him. If I wanted a fighter to beat Canelo, Plant has all the right attributes.

The beauty of this is we get to find out in a few days and I expect after the fight you will say to me win, lose or draw that Olu you were right Plant is much better than I thought. Can Canelo win? Absolutely he can. Can Plant win? Most definitely he can which you and others don’t realise. In fight week so far I have seen what I need to see from Plant. From Canelo’s perspective they seem to think this is routine and they will overcome any difficulties Plant brings. Get ready to be shocked and surprised especially when Plant shows he can hurt Canelo which you , others and Canelo have not factored in.

We're in the far reaches of the bellcurve here, the odds of a fighter being able to compete levels above where they are will always be slim.

True, they were not close to Canelo level and... That means Plant's odds of winning will be very low - he's incredibly unlikely to shock the world.

It's a question of perspective - Plant's best win is an unspectacular fighter, who would've been beaten comfortably by Smith or Saunders also.
