Difficult comparison. Bruno had a lot more natural talent, but Whyte has a lot more good wins. If Whyte fell under a bus tomorrow, I would have to give it to Bruno, based on beating McCall and Coetze. However Whyte is in a realistic position, to challenge Bruno for his place, in the British all time rankings. Everything is still on the table with Whyte.
McCall, Coetzee and Bugner are better than Whyte's wins. Old Povetkin LKO is worse than any loss Bruno has. Whyte might beat Fury, yeah, anything is possible.
Currently, Ruiz at least. And Hunter. Previously, others. But boxers' careers do not rest on targeting the Ring top 5.
It is, but if Bruno had taken more dangerous fights, he would very likely have a loss like that. Povetkin was old, but he was still relevant in the division. Ranked in the top ten, and coming off a draw with Michael Hunter (I won't lie I had it for Hunter). Also Povetkin was basically the third fighter of his era, along with the Klitschko brothers.
40 year old Povetkin really would not be classed as a dangerous fight for a prime Bruno. In fact, it would be classed as another old has-been being fed to Bruno to pad his record. He looked very badly over-the-hill against Hunter, and it was a tough fight. An era that is long passed. I think you mean "below", not "along with".
Look, I don’t give Whyte much credit for beating Parker considering the circumstances, but I’d favor Parker over all of those guys (Coetzee was old, Bugner ancient) and Bruno himself. Rivas and Chisora could at least be competitive.
What impressed you about '86/'87 Bugner enough to assert this^^? By this time, Bugner was competing at around a couple of stone above his ideal fighting weight. He was slow and clearly unable to box like anything resembling his better days. Bugner struggled and muddled his way over the10-round distance, with a fair bit of inactivity, holding, spoiling and leaning. Any reasonable form he showed early, rather quickly unraveled, after a few rounds or so, from which point he was unable to fight for the full three minutes of a round. That version of Bugner is not bringing enough of a challenge to realistically consider him a favorite over anyone Whyte has fought, during the past five years.
Well, the best Whyte has fought is Parker. Actually watch Parker's fights against Cojanu, Hughie F and AJ .... and watch Bugner's with Tillis, Bey and Page ... honestly, Parker should impresa me more? Is it just me then who has woken up to realize Parker did look quite terrible. Bugner looked no worse surely.
Bugner? He actually gained weight when he arrived back in the UK! He had weighed 230lbs for his title challenge to Ali,he weighed 256 and a half for Bruno and sported a 40 inch waist! Coetzee was 18lbs heavier than he had been for Dokes and it was all lard ,he was soft looking. You're good poster but I don't think you are capable of objectivity where Whyte is concerned
