the scalp is not on the level of the achievement. historically for unifying the division fully it is a big statement but Plant is not not a top 5 win for Canelo
Also please see the cogent points made yesterday by Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant himself yesterday after the press conference specifically who has Canelo fought to remedy the defects exposed by Mayweather: This content is protected
Wouldn't he be the first undisputed SMW champion ever? I think even Calzaghe didn't collect every belt (someone help me), that in of itself is a big achievement and I don't think should be understated. Even if the belt is coming from Caleb Plant
Shocks happen, that's boxing, that's sport, that's life... But they're shocks for a reason. Looking back on history you'd be justified in saying that even most of the best fighters get beaten at some point - the problem is we're not talking about whether Canelo will lose again (he probably will unless he retires young or stops manuring the playing field), we're talking about whether it's reasonable to believe that Plant is likely to be the one that hands that L to him. And frankly, given Plant's resume and solid but unspectacular performances to date, I'm not seeing any reason to believe he's a good couple of levels higher than he's proven yet - for exactly the same reason I would never have picked Wilder to beat Fury, fighters who ain't proven at the level of their opponents are less likely to win than to lose. Canelo certainly isn't unbeatable but he is a P4P talent in a weak division - Plant is neither special nor P4P and I expect it to be pretty comfortable for Canelo as a result. This is what is reasonable - if your gut tells you otherwise that's fine, put your chips down and cross your fingers, but don't make out like yours is the smart money here, it's a real gamble to back an overmatched fighter.
How many former fighters have to be proven wrong for people to stop quoting whichever one conveniently agrees with their preexisting beliefs? Besides, even if Plant IS better than Saunders - he'd need to be a LOT better, to the point that it's not even debatable... And he's not.
Wilder cannot beat Fury because his skills level are so rudimentary and poor. In fact I used the words Agricultural. I got plenty of abuse but was spot on in my prediction and proven right. The eyes don’t deceive. This is no mismatch because of Plant’s skills and talent. There are things he does better than Canelo. When a guy like me who knows boxing and a Canelo fan who has watched Canelo live is picking Plant to win, it should give you food for thought. There was a reason Plant like Erroll Spence Jr and a few others were elite level amateurs. I look forward to our post fight discussion. Neither of us will convince the other before then and no excuses afterwards please. I have seen what I need to see from Plant in fight week whilst I note disturbing signs in Canelo’s mental state.
Respectfully, you thought Connor Benn lost his last fight on points You honestly dont know boxing as well as you think No shame in that, its a crazy sport
I do know just that it was a poor fight very open to interpretation. Benn was disappointing and should not be viewed as a headline act. Imagine what Boots Ennis would do to him.
Anyone can make a wrong pick in boxing as it’s not an exact science however intangibles those factors you don’t necessarily see can have a massive impact.
Had a dream about a mega fight in 2025 ......Campbell Hatton beats Canelo inside the first round ( at 175 )
There are things Wilder does better than Fury - specifically, punch hard. There's still levels and as an all-round package Plant is as far off Canelo as Wilder was off Fury. You speak as if this were 50/50 or advantage Plant... If I'm honest, I don't see Plant winning more than 1/10 against Canelo. I've seen enough of Plant to see that he needs hyping to generate any interest in this fight - I'm just not prepared to hype him myself in order to get excited at that prospect. There may be things to credit Plant for in the fight (as there were with BJS) but it'll still be a huge shock if he can win.
With respect, no, I'm not falling for that - you brought it up because you felt like it backed up your point... If MAB thought Saunders was better than Plant you'd have kept schtum and we both know it.
