He was a somewhat skinny man. They predicted big things for him. He never quite made it but for a while he was one of the eras best.
Many saw him as the likely heir to Charles and Walcott's throne at one point. He is one of those fighters that bears a closer look.
Managed by Blinky Palermo, what bearing ,if any, that had on a couple of his upset losses I have no idea.
On June 4, 1954 Clarence Henry was arrested in New York City for attempting to bribe Bobby Jones to throw his match with Joey Giardello. Henry allegedly offered $15,000 to Jones to throw the fight. Henry was released after posting $2,000 bail and subsequently retired from the ring. Giardello beat Jones in a close decision. It sounds like events outside the ring might have derailed Henry's career.
He actually has a lot more decent wins then I remember him having. Two over Baker, Bivins, Satterfield, Turkey Thompson, Doc, and a few other c fighters. He once had a no contest with Oakland Billy Smith for both of them not fighting enough lol.
We really need Suzy Q for this. If a fighter from that era flatulated too loudly, he generally picked up on it.
He's like a 50's version of Gerry Cooney, an unstoppable powerhouse who was destroyed in one fight. Hard punchers who burn out quickly
