One of things I begrudgingly like about Broner (and I also put Camacho in this category) is when it came time to catch a whupping, they stood in there and took it.

I have to admire when a guy with a huge ego is overmatched but bites down on that mouthpiece and says ‘I’m here for the comeuppance. Not taking the easy way out.’

    'Canelo' Alvarez vs Carlos Baldomir

    Canelo : CB

    1: 10 - 9 Canelo landing lead hooks.
2: 10 - 9 More active round. Lovely body shot from Canelo.
    3: 10 - 9 Very fast from Canelo.
    4: 10 - 9 Closer.
    5: 10 - 9 Same pattern.
    6: KO Awesome left hook.

    Notes:
    • Good to see that piece of **** Baldomir KOd.
    • Canelo has improved a lot since this one. He backs up in straight lines a lot here, which he doesn't really do anymore.

It's the only redeeming quality of Broners for me he took what was owed and didn't spit out the pacifier when it came to pay the price.

I am very, very, disappointed in you, Rough Diamond. Seeing other, much inferior channels behind my back......Is nothing sacred? PS, I hope someone sees the pic and laughs.

Herol Graham vs Mike McCallum 7-5 (I don't include that BS point deduction in round 8) I think a case could be made for HG getting a draw provided you don't count that nonsense in round eight.

Henry Cooper v Jose Urtain (European heavyweight title)

I never knew this fight was out there. Just found it perchance. I'm using the 5 point must system, which appears the norm at the time.

    Round 1: 5-4 Cooper
    Round 2: 5-4 Cooper
    Round 3: 5-4 Cooper
    Round 4: 5-4 Cooper
    Round 5: 5-4 Cooper
    Round 6: 5-4 Urtain
    Round 7: 5-5 Even
Round 8: 5-3 Cooper (Referee docks Urtain a point for use of the head)
Round 9: The bout is stopped between the 8th and 9th as Urtain's right eye is closed, his nose may be broken and he also has a cut.

Total through 8 completed rounds: 39-33 Cooper (actual scores unknown)

Urtain was strong as an ox and that really sums him up. He couldn't jab, wouldn't body-punch, no combos. He would swing from the fences when he got close and that's about it. Cooper, on the otherhand, kept up a stabbing left jab throughout which controlled the fight. It really was an amazing performance from the 36 year old Cooper.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Genaro Hernandez

    FMjr : GH

1: 10 - 9 Lovely body jab from FMjr. Interesting chess match. Both men slip.
2: 10 - 9 Closer. Floyd comes on in second half. Both look awkward at points.
3: 10 - 9 Smart action fighting. Incredible speed from FMjr.
    4: 10 - 9 Mayweather the agressor
5: 10 - 9 Clear Maywether round. GH on the ropes.
6: 10 - 9 Same pattern. Floyd feinting more now instead of rushing.

    60 - 54

    7: 10 - 9 Great round.
    8: 10 - 9 Quality round. GH incredibly ballsy.
    9: RTD

    Notes:
    • Floyd yet to develop the defensive acumen seen later, even some janky footwork in round 1. However, he settles down very well against a top class opponent. He looks incredible as an aggressor here. Cat like combinations and reflexes.

Lloyd Honeyghan v Marlon Starling (Welterweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Starling
    Round 2: 10-9 Honeyghan
    Round 3: 10-9 Honeyghan
    Round 4: 10-9 Starling
    Round 5: 10-9 Starling
    Round 6: 10-9 Starling
    Round 7: 10-9 Starling
    Round 8: 10-9 Starling
Round 9: Starling drops and stops Honeyghan

Total through 8 completed rounds: 78-74 Starling (actual scores: 78-75, 78-73 and 79-72 all for Starling)

It's been awhile since watching this one (actually since it aired live) and I always said this was one of the best counter-punching performances I had seen. But seeing it again, Starling was also brilliant in attack as well. Mickey Duff summed it up correctly between the 4th and 5th rounds when he implored Lloyd that, "He's making you do all the work!" That was exactly correct. Starling kept that peek-a-boo guard up and let Lloyd pound away at his arms while countering until he finally went on the attack himself. I gave Lloyd rounds 2 and 3 out of work-rate and there were a couple of rounds I mulled over giving Starling the round by 2 points. However, in both cases he fought back well enough to keep it a 10-9. Perhaps a more liberal judge would see it differently, but this is my take on the fight. A fight that really demonstrates one fighter being slowly taken apart piece by piece. BTW the knockdown in the 9th was nothing special. I don't think it was a case of Lloyd going down from a particular punch as it was more like getting in out of the rain.

Duff ran out of answers somewhere along the way and instructed the Ragamuffin Man between rounds: “Make yourself scarce!”

He could run but he could not hide.

    Salido vs Lomachenko

    1:10-9
    2:10-9
    3:10-9
    4:10-9
    5:9-10
    6:10-9
    7:9-10
    8:10-9
    9:10-9
    10:9-10
    11:9-10
    12:9-10

I forgot how utterly frustrating Lomachenko was at the start of this fight. He does literally nothing, just throwing rounds away through sheer inactivity.

It wasn't until round 5 I gave anything to Loma, he does better work on that round, out landing Salido for the first time as Siri seems to take the round off.

Round 6 sees Salido return to his aggressive pressure and basically just bully Loma around the ring making Loma look really ineffective again.

7 sees the momentum going back to Loma who finishes the round with a very crisp combination.

Round 8 it goes back to Salido who seems to win rounds comfortably whenever he ups his aggression. Importantly this is the 6th round I've scored for Salido now meaning he won't lose if he isn't dropped from this point. Round 9 goes the same way and Salido is now well on his way to victory.

Round 10 sees Lomachenko begin his comeback by upping his activity, accuracy and aggression. By the end of 12 Salido is holding on just trying to survive, but it's too little too late to rescue the fight on points.

    115-113 for Salido.

    Lomachenko vs Russel

    1:10-9
    2:10-9
    3:10-9
    4:9-10
    5:10-9
    6:10-9
    7:10-9
    8:9-10
    9:9-10
    10:10-9
    11:10-9
    12:10-9

Hard to believe this is the same Lomachenko. He uses a combination of footwork, timing and accuracy to completely neutralise the speed of Russell. I gave Russell the slight edge in round 4 but as far as chess matches go, Russell is fighting the wrong fight completely.

Round 6 and 7 sees Russell do his very best Salido impression by upping his work rate and trying to put Loma on the back foot, but it doesn't seem to be having the desires effect as Loma continually times and counters him, particularly so in the 7th we're he lands a series of very good shots.

Round 8 and 9 see Russell going back to boxing more, but keeping his activity levels up very high. This throws Loma off his own rhythm and whilst it isn't pretty, with lots of punches being missed, it is enough for him to edge the rounds on my card.

The final 3 rounds see Loma really get a handle his timing. Russell tries to maintain high activity levels but Loma continually gets through with huge counters.

GRJ actually shows a very good chin in this fight, but it's a very clear victory.

    117-111

    Lomachenko vs Martinez through Rigondeaux

I've group all of these fights together because it's just perfection isn't it. This run of performances against a variety of styles and world class fighters really is amazing.

He doesn't put a foot wrong, he dominates, he times, he out manoeuvres and he punishes.

He leaves every opponent with no choice but to quit.

For these two years, for this run of 5 fight at SFW, Loma really was a genuine ATG talent.
