Is it time to finally admit that Canelo is one of the best Mexican fighters of all time?

First undisputed Mexican fighter since Olivares, as well as the first undisputed 168 fighter. He’s also willing to fight just about anyone. He’s made adjustments and gained more experience and also improved himself through tough fights such as Mayweather, Lara, GGG. He has since become a much better fighter, bulldozing through his opponents and finishing in impressive fashion. I think it’s time to finally acknowledge that Canelo belongs to the list of other great Mexican fighters such as Chavez, Olivares, Sanchez, Zarate, Saldivar, Canto, JMM, Barrera, Morales, etc.

He is a true ATG fighter and deserves the praise he’s getting.

Yes he is one of the best from Mexico. One year people say what opponents will beat him. When he runs thru those boxers people say they were no good. In other words he will never be good in their eyes but he is an elite force to be recon with.

He can only be as good as the quality of opponents he beats. And I think quality is lacking in his last fights.

Chavez, Olivares, Sanchez, Saldívar and Canto are still ahead of him at the moment.

Edit: that list is not in order.

I don't think some of his wins will age well in retrospect. For example, if Plant retired after this bout, how would he look, historically, as an opponent, with his resume? Not very good imo. Then you have the contextual factors of some of his wins and his career as a whole. There's no way you can be thorough, or objective, about ranking Canelo before he retires unless he somehow does some Pacquaio-esque shenanigans.

Always like to wait until the career is over but seems obvious he is right there with the best of them and has surpassed several of the other legends too.

To be honest, his current place is far superior than Chavez or Sanchez. He almost broke all time top 20 p4p barrier.
