Based on this performance, Floyd would school Canelo again. Caneoo ate quite a few of far slower Plants short counter rights and clearly had trouble pinning Plant down. And even when he did he struggled to land clean.

Plant has a very strong case for 4-6 rounds in this fight.. Many of those round Canelo won weren't actually by landing shots. Canelos improvements from the Floyd fight are far overblown

Its amazing how highly thought of Mayweather is, that we're actually having a discussion whether of not the undisputed SMW champ of the world would or wouldn't beat a WW

Mayweather was one of the greatest fighters ever and arguably the greatest fighter of all time. And to be clear I was never a fan but I recognize his talent, skills, and dedication to the sport. Mayweather was very capable of beating much bigger fighters. Sugar Ray Robinson was not a big welterweight and he almost beat a light heavy (essentially only lost because of dehydration).

Does the 31 year old undisputed SMW champion of the world beat a 36 year old WW?

    Yeah, probably.

Then we see completely different things.

There's a reason why Floyd never fought Golovkin and why Floyd drained Canelo to 152.

    Hint: Mayweather senior said it.

Some people never enter a boxing gym and probably never fight in their live, so i will excuse their ignorance.
Every fight play different. Just because you beat someone badly, and school him 12-0, doesn't mean the next fight between them will play the same. Could be schooling but a reverse one.
But saying all this, DAMN HELL NO !!! Mayweather still schools him !
And still no GGG still beats him 8-4, 9-3.

I like Canelo but Floyd schools Canelo 11 out of 10 times.

Speaking from experience of being on these forums where people believe a small 154 fighter is going to beat a cannon-punching 168lb fighter ... on the basis that a decade earlier he managed to plod to a points win over a drained and much worse version of the same fighter. Floydettes are another breed entirely.

Styles makes fight. Floyd is all wrong for Canelo. Ginger has been fighting hittable slow and basic boxers. Floyd is probably the best defense, counter puncher and mover in the game. I have ever seen. He was 36 when he fought Canelo not exactly prime. Floyd's prime that guy was razor sharp slick and fast as they come.

Canelo was young and inexperienced compared to what he is now. He had terrible stamina problems. He was drained by Floyd to exacerbate these problems. He has picked up a lot of tricks since then and he has become immensely stronger.

If all that was required to win, was to have a favourable style matchup then Wilder would be something like 20-20 and he would never have sniffed heavyweight stardom. Wilder has come to where he is now through his power and physicality, not skill. Ditto for guys like Baer. Size and physicality also count and these are 100% on Canelo's side in this hypothetical. There's a reason why Floyd stopped at 154 and that's because he was small even for 154.

There's a reason why Floyd never went near Golovkin and fought nullities like Berto instead, despite saying "easy work" over and over. He knew that 154 was his limit and he didn't even want to try GGG at 154. Even if he believed he had the stylistic edge, he knew he'd get his **** pushed in due to the sheer physicality of his opponent.

Canelo at 168 absolutely snaps Floyd in half with his punches. He'll cave his shoulder roll in for him.

    It's a different fighter.

    A prime SMW-LHW vs a 150 Floyd?

    Of course.

At 151? Canelo gets stopped, probably early.

The reality is current Canelo is 2+ weight classes higher than they were then. The situations aren't remotely comparable.

    I think Floyd schools him.

Slow robotic predictable for Floyd. Maidana was unpredictable wild swinging hitchu in the back, hitchu on the leg and hitchu everywhere. Rough you up. So yeah, but remember Floyd was 37 so he was not prime at that stage.

Even if Floyd fought him at 168 and he would be too old, 37 years old. It's not impressive. Canelo's best win was Golovkin and Kavalev old fighters. Good wins tho. Since then he has gone thru fighting fighters not considered great by any organization. The best fighter he has fought and got schooled by was Floyd say's it all really.

Do you consider Goloking better than Floyd, F no!!
    Kovalev, HEll to the NO!!
Caleb plant is a wanna be Floyd but is a broke version.

    So there.
