don't let it bother you so much. and it isn't canelo that's "tainted boxing", it's the dysfunctional federations. everyone else is just manipulating a broken system.
A guy who hates Canelo is trying to tell everyone his lopsided score for Plant was objectively. Sorry, but no one is buying it.
Exact repeat of the Saunders fight. Slow and painful beatdown of an overmatched, featherfisted but game challenger? Check. People who hate Canelo trying to alter reality to fit into their irrational hope he was actually getting beat on the cards? Check. Said contender who was hammered into oblivion going to hospital after the fight while Canelo-hater pretends the stoppage was a fix or a fluke? Check.
I ****ing hate Canelo and thought GGG got robbed in their first fight, but in the Plant fight I scored literally every round for Canelo and I don't know how else you can see it. You don't get points for flashy and slick movement. Plant only ever landed these occasional pathetic jabs, while Canelo was consistently landing hard hooks and body shots. It wasn't even close.
Rewatching it this evening, I found it a pretty tight one with a bunch of swing rounds. Canelo wasn't quite stacking up the 10-9's in the second half as I'd thought he had when watching (only loosely scoring) live. For as close as Plant was able to make it, though, Canelo's management of energy was the primary factor. Frequent stretches of doing little aside from stalking and exerting an ominous, crowding presence allowed Plant to do the things he was looking to do, even if he wasn't completely comfortable. Canelo's big shots weren't always plentiful enough to cancel out those spells. In other words, Canelo was always in control in an open-ended sense — always would've ground Plant down eventually, whether it took eleven, fourteen or nineteen rounds — but his need to conserve energy (which is still very apparent, and always will be) allowed Caleb to make a legitimate case for himself in many rounds.
