He could still do it. If he loses, there will always be the built-in excuse that he jumped up too late. A real excuse, although he only has himself to blame for it.
Even if you want to score the rematch to Clenelo because you feel Gingers are a discriminated against minority or something, which to be fair they are albeit it's totally justified, then that still has GGG 1-1 against the ''greatest fighter of our generation'' even though he was way past his prime and noticeably declined and was giving away a significant amount weight to an 8 year younger prime Clenelo who was jacked full of PEDs and even then it razor close and the vast majority of casuals and blind people who scored it in his favour only had it for him by a round. Imagine what GGG would've done to him if he was 28 and in his prime, had a significant weight advantage over him and was jacked full of PEDs? He would've knocked him out, let alone just paddled his ass convincingly even without the PEDs and weight advantage. Now imagine it was a 28 y/o GGG who was in his prime, had a significant weight advantage, and was jacked full of PEDs against a 36 going on 37 y/o way past prime clean Clenelo who he'd shamelessly ducked a younger closer to prime version of after creating his own weight class and having a specially designed state of the art Mexican-proof electrified chicken coop constructed to hide out in until he saw the signs of ageing and decline he'd been biding his time waiting for before he dared step up to the plate? By far Clenelo's best win, and it's not even remotely close, is a highly controversial razor-close decision that the vast majority had him losing over a way past prime near 37 y/o GGG who had noticeably declined and who GGG was giving away a significant weight against, 8 years in youth, and who Clenelo had to jack himself full of PEDs to scrape by by a single point against 114-114 115-113 115-113 As for GGG vs Clenelo I Virtually everyone, sans a handful of blind casuals who DKSAB and Clenelo's doe-eyed teenybopper fangirls who also DKSAB and of course GGG haters, scored it for GGG. The entire boxing world saw it as a scandalous robbery and rightfully so https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...egas-poll-edition.643639/page-8#post-20292779 But GGG a ''bum'' doe This content is protected
I don't think Canelo has improved much since Mayweather to be honest. Look at his best opposition since Mayweather, Lara, Golovkin. Niether man is on the level a past prime Mayweather was when he fought Canelo. Canelo struggled very much, and some say he lost those fights. I'm sick of this Canelo has improved narrative. He hasn't dominated any elite fighters since FM or Golovkin. So I don't see how anyone can say he's so much better now.
If GGG beats Murata in December, (which is damn near a gimme fight to get another strap around his waist,) if he doesnt fight Andrade, Charlo, or Munguia next his legacy can be tarnished just like that. Only fight id give him a pass for is if he moved up to fight Canelo at 168 for a 3rd fight.
i’ve never seen a fighter so blatantly disrespected despite the fact that numerous people in his weight division ducked him or dumped their belts to avoid him. Then as he got older people finally showed a willingness to fight him. It’s a joke and history will be very kind to him.
What's odd is that a lot of people who call him overrated believe he beat Alvarez in the first fight. How do you beat the current best fighter in the world at 35 years old and believe that? As for those who say he didn't "take any chances", what do you think he was doing at middleweight with his time besides trying to fight the best? Isn't that the type of fighter we are supposed to admire?
