Even against a total non puncher? I think he he should probably win on points or something but i'm old fashioned i'd rather see him win British and Euro rather than path of least resistance Vs washed up fighters like Vargas (who wasn't great anyway) Very much a ho hum fight.
If Algieri has some ambition he could arguably win this. At least he's been confidently in shape, I'd love this to backfire on Hearn!
That would be funny. The Algeri of the Khan fight probably wins this. Benn won't have faced someone with that kind of mind set and pressure before.
Algieri despite his age and semi retirement well and truly lives the life of an athlete, while Benn was clearly on the booger sugar last time he was on TV at the Matchroom show. Plus I dont think Algieri is the type to take the money and not try. Not to mention his very good ring generalship, something which stays with a fighter regardless of age and something Benn doesn't really have at all. This is definitely a potential banana skin.
Hearn secretly loves it when his fighter gets beat in an upset. Rolls out the 'we told people it was a tough fight, credit to them for taking it' and gets the ball rolling for a big REPEAT OR REVENGE rematch. Joshua v Ruiz, Whyte v Povetlin, Warrington v Lara etc.
I wouldn't say he loves it (to say the least), but you're right, that is his go to coping mechanism! I'll never forget his face in that IFL TV interview after Andy Rice Pudding Jr gave birth to Jack It Joshua
That's my take on it,he's come on leaps and bounds the last couple of years so another couple of learning fights is smart,go for an avanesyan type fight later next year.
No but you get Argentinian ones (Marcos Maidana) wouldn't surprise me 1 bit if Hearn dug him up next.
You can hear Benn now post fight telling everybody that nobody has done that to algreri not even pacquaio!!!
Or when he turns up at another fight to talk about his next one wearing his shoulder bag and his bum bag like he's just about to go and sell some weed. Does he not wear trousers with pockets?
