ward is one of the few boxers I believe when they say "i'm retired and done with boxing". I'm sure before retiring he thought about it, or fighting usyk. I really don't think ward wants to ever box professional again. The kovalev fights were his goodbye to boxing.
Ward rejected this years ago during a backpack interview. He didn't want to fight the biggest payday fight he'd ever have, not long after he'd retired. He had ''other things to do''. In other words, he wasn't confident of getting the refs/judges/promotion on his side and knew he'd lose his ''0''. That shows how fake his ''take on everyone'' game was, because even Khan didn't turn down a Canelo payday. Ironically, Ward didn't want to be in the position of Kovalev during their fight, in other words needing a KO to win against the house fighter.
Ward would have beat Canelo, I have no doubt of this. Whether the judges would have given him the nod is another story.
Ward said when he retired his body couldn't take the wear and tear of boxing anymore which is why he retired. He had a shoulder injury in 07, then injuries after beating Dawson which kept him side lined for ages then pulled out of the Brand fight with a Knee injury in 2015. Canelo/Ward now would be like Cotto/Martinez, one fit fighter fighting an old, broken fighter it would be meaningless.
Also it’s beyond dispute that Ward was a better fighter than Canelo so don’t see the point of this thread really. Why would Ward come out of retirement? It’s not as if he has anything to prove.
Theres always someone that wants ward to come out of retirement isn't there , why though, its like some people think, yeh, ward is the only guy that can sort this out, no matter who it is, some even call for him to come back and jump up all the weights to "sort" a guy out.... yeh ward will sort him out.. Im sorry to burst some peoples bubbles, but He really wasnt all that, you know. He never fought when he was 'active' no matter come out of retirement to fight for gawd sake
Because it's a pointless fight. I hate when people say X fighter should come out of retirement for Y fight. What if Ward comes out, fights Canelo and get's KOed ? Does it prove Canelo is better, or that Ward just isn't the same fighter ? If Ward wins, does it mean Canelo's a hypejob and a bum ? Same with Mayweather, enjoy your money, your health, you deserve it and let's leave it at that.
Now if we don’t consider his physical or mental health he has nothing to lose. If Andre wins his stock rises through the roof if he gets dominated so what he retired years ago? Either way he’d be getting a career high payday. It could be fun and I admit it I’d pay to watch it but wouldn’t expect much from Ward.
