Marcos was 140lb guy, not sure he was anything special with power. He had power, but nothing more impressive than Thurman, Spence, Matthyse, etc..

It implies that Mayweather fought a worse version of Canelo than he would have otherwise faced.
GGG is relevant to the discussion because he was living rent free inside Floyd's head for a while. Floyd couldn't stop going on about how easy it would be for him to take out GGG and then when the time came to face somebody he went and fought frickin Berto and a debut fighter. Fact is he wanted nothing to do with a 160lb wrecking ball and in the words of Mayweather snr "Floyd ain't fighting no damn giant." The size of Golovkin clearly bothered their camp and rightly so.

I'm referring to his overall development as a fighter, not the obvious disparity in weight they would have now.

Of course. Same as every other instance of when an A side dictates terms that try to give them an advantage. Fighters maximizing their advanatages to make their task as easy as they can make it. Nothing new there. Dont have to go too far to see the numerous other examples of it... like... Canelo trying to do it to Bivol.

Its nothing more than that, and is rather meaningless outside of boxing fans conflating it to mean more than it does.

Or maybe it was the actual fact Mayweather was 38 years old, clearly ready for retirement, and didnt match up with Golovkin well at all at the time?

How is it rational to think a 38 year old welterweight not wanting to fight a peaking Golovkin as his farewell fight at middleweight is indicative of anything other than that?

    Ok and?

If you think it was only Golovkins size, and not also his superb power, his ability at cutting off the ring, his propensity to start becoming an unrelenting borderline volume puncher when he doesnt respect you, and his ring generalship, that didnt heavily factor into it, I think you'd be clearly mistaken.

Golovkin is an entirely different type of matchup and type of fight for Mayweather than Canelo is.

His style would have been much harder for a 38 year old Mayweather to deal with.. because at his peak, once he found his groove, if he didnt respect your power Golovkin would become an offensive onslaught.

    That is not Canelo.

    Golovkin is irrelevant.

Just saying ''Mayweather didnt want to fight Golovkin at age 38 just because he was too big... therefore... Canelo beats him." is just simplistic and wrong, in my view.

Why would PBF move up to 160 to fight GGG when he just beat Pac at 147 in the fight of the era at 38? Who does that?

    Absolutely not.
Just look at the problems Canelo still had figuring out Plant.

A guy that keeps telling everybody how easy Golovkin would be for him to beat. Actually he wouldn't even have had to go up to 160, GGG said he's go down to 154.

So what? People talk all the time in boxing. He probably thought GGG wasn't worthy of the type of hype he was getting and he was proven right.

Floyd was as jealous AF and you can take it to the bank that if he'd genuinely thought he'd had a chance against Golovkin he'd have called for the fight to be made. And I think he was right not to make the fight: Golovkin was too big. No shame to admit it, unless you're Floyd of course.

PBF would have boxed circles around GGG at 154 and not gotten a ounce of credit for doing so. Levels!

PBF woulda coulda ... but ... he didn't do anything, he fought Berto and a debut boxer. Those are the facts. Floyd would have been better off to shut his yap and simply say "he's too big." Instead he made himself look foolish.
