Golovkin will be 40+ by the time they could fight and was showing his age 2 years ago when he looked vulnerable in a close fight against Derevyanchenko. Canelo is better than he was 4 years ago and Golovkin (who was already 18-24 months post prime in the first fight that he won clearly) is significantly worse. Aside from money there is no point in a trilogy for Golovkin, especially as he knows he can't get a fair decision. A non-handicapped Beterbiev/Bivol or Benevidez would be more dangerous matchups for Canelo at this stage.

Why hasn't Fury moved down to cruiserweight?

    1. Because hes a natural middleweight and most suited for that division.

    2. Because he would be watering down some of the main attributes (power, chin) that make/made him special at 160.

Its never a great idea for an undersized (for the weight hes going to) pressure fighter that relies on his power and his chin to jump weight divisions when he doesnt have to.

And he would lose all the Accolades if the old man knocked him out.

That would be a great win for Gennady but Canelo already took GGG's best for 24 rounds so you know very well he's not stopping a prime Canelo.

Even if he did though, that would not erase anything Canelo has accomplished since their last meeting.

One, was legacy because he was trying to unify the belts and break the record on defenses. Two, he had the illusion money fight options at 160 with Martinez, Cotto, Canelo, even the prospect of Mayweather. They were all bigger fights than going up to 168 and facing Froch or Ward. Froch and Ward were the biggest money fights at 168 and they have since moved on. The ship has sailed and GGG is old and not elite anymore. The best he can do now is just contenders for decent pay until he no longer has the desire to fight. I think he is holding out on if Canelo makes him a serious offer before going up to 168 for no reason.

He's getting close to 40. And 160 to 168 has been a historically difficult jump.

I respect the fact that he made a career at one weight class. More fighters should do this TBH

I don't like that unless your're a HW or the weightclass is super deep with talent.

back in the 90's if you stuck around a weightclass with low level fighters people would say you were scared of challenges.

Very true, you have to be special like RJJ, Toney, Hopkins, Canelo to pull that off.

I think GGG gets some flack for not fighting in other weight divisions because for years he claimed time again that he would fight anyone between 154-168.

He is 40, but he has very little mileage. But I agree, there is definitely a decline once you hit 35.
