    1. Joey DeJohn - "I don't remember a thing being hit by Dejohn, but when I saw a film clip later, I saw my legs buckle."

    2. George Foreman - When he hit me, my head went 'Boing!"'

    3. Mel Turbow - "When he hit me, for a split second I said 'Ooooh that was a good one..."

If we are talking about Chuvalo, he has been in a bad way for several years according to the latest news. (Tris Dixons book)

yeah but it came late for him. he has also had a Helluva Life, with NO END of Mental Torment associated with his Family.

Chuvalo had a Tragic & Amazing Life, and faired well, right into his 70s.

Honestly I’ve never been a fan of George. But he wasn’t a bad guy he was a real decent human being who had some bad stuff thrust upon him.

I’d have to assume that Big George Foreman was the hardest puncher he fought but there have been guys who said that Frazier could hit you harder- I think it gets forgotten that anyone can hit hard and it really makes for some strange confessions.

Joey Dejohn was a middleweight.... I think you might be referring to his brother Mike who was indeed a banger.

Chuvalo has reportedly been in cognitive decline for several years. I think there were issues between George’s children and his ex wife/gf? as to who would have authority over his care and control of his finances.

His son firmly believes his condition is due to the blows he took over the course of his career.

George never actually said who hit harder between Frazier and Foreman, just that their power felt different, viz speeding race car v slow truck.

As per avail vision, George probably appeared most consistently and then dramatically hurt by Foreman but some argue that Bonavena might’ve scored a KD that wasn’t officially ruled.

Chuvalo had one of those thick, strong necks. Even when hit hard and flush, his head didn’t twist or snap as much as most other fighters though Foreman probably shifted George’s head this way and that more than any other fighter.

Tbh, Chuvalo looked somewhat distressed and concerned in the very early stages of their fight. One of Foreman’s better performances, particularly given his age and relative lack of experience.

Who that fought them said Fraizer hit harder?
More often yes, & a sustained beating can make the blows seem harder than when separated early from your senses.
Even Foreman who praised Frazier to the High Heavens & implausibly claimed his knees were shaking when they had the face off said that Lyle, Williams & Cooney hit him harder. Cooney was washed up, David Letterman was surprised.

Cooney was washed up? Williams was around ten years past his prime, in his 30s, with a ****ing bullet in him!

Yes-although I do not know exactly when he sparred Foreman, but what is the point?
One was literally shot, the other a psychologically troubled alcoholic.
Both could still hit like Hdouble l, power is the last thing to go.

I was only saying that they & Lyle hit harder than Frazier.

These discussions and this part of the ‘Best I Faced’ series always spark debate (ever wonder why nobody ever argues with a guy saying this or that opponent had the best handspeed or defense or footwork lol?).

There’s a difference between experiencing something and, for lack of a better term, studying it as an academic exercise.

I don’t see how anyone can argue with a guy who says ‘Fighter A was the best puncher I faced’ on an experiential level — only that fighter knows what he felt when he got hit. And anyone who has ever sparred knows that you can feel the punches of some guys more than others, even if the others might be better knockout artists. Because there’s a difference between hitting someone hard and hitting them ‘right’ — the latter may do more damage in wobbling, concussing, disorienting while the former might be experienced a harder punch.

And they are only assessing what they got hit with and what they experienced, not what results that fighter had against others.

For instance, I trust that when Qawi says he was literally seeing things upside down for a period of time from a punch from Matthew Saad Muhammad he’s assessing that as the hardest he’s been hit … because nobody else disoriented his brain’s capacity to process what his eyes took in that way. But that punch didn’t knock him down and Evander stopped him.

Fighters also tend to include their own self-assessment — if they weren’t as in shape for a fight and got knocked down/stopped they might not rate that guy as a stronger puncher than one they went the distance with or beat. Maybe some other fighter hit so hard that they fought cautiously so as not to get hit like that again.
