Canelo would not even fight him. Too much of a risk. He already lost twice to GGG, he would lose more badly to Nunn
Nunn at both weights, but at 160 easier.. he got more flatfooted and used his angles less at 168 out of laziness probably.
Canelo would have a shot at Super middle. But middleweight Nunn would box his ears off and stop him late. Nunn was what 6'2 southpaw who was lightning fast.
Nunn gets a little overrated for mine at times and people forget how many disappointing spotty performances he had. When he was good he was good tho. I think i'd favor him over Canelo at 160 and i'd probably favor Canelo at 168 strange as it might seem.
I agree...Nunn was never the same after losing to Toney... the higher weights were where the majority of Nunn's laziness was observed
Nunn would have been a significant favourite at MW. Canelo wasn’t prime then, and it would have been a very bad stylistic match up him. At 168, Canelo is now in his absolute prime. He looks more confident and composed, with better stamina. And although it would still have been a tough match up stylistically, Nunn had slipped at SMW, where he wasn’t as consistent, losing to guys like Steve Little. I have to believe that he’d have respected Canelo enough to get into the best shape possible, but he wasn’t the fighter he’d been in his prime at MW. I could definitely envisage Canelo beating him at 168. So: Nunn at 160, Canelo at 168.
Canelo’s 160 resume is better than Nunn’s. Nunn fought a great aggressive counterpuncher in Toney and ended up getting stopped.
It’s not really about the resumes for me. Nunn was much sharper and more focused at 160. I don’t think Canelo would be able to get as close as what Toney did.
Canelo is a lot like Toney, but he cuts the ring off better. It would be a tightrope walk for Nunn, even at 160.
