Premise of the thread is a simple one For every decade I'm going to list the man, in my opinion, that was the best man to never be ranked as number 1 in the division (if someone has been ranked the best in another decade, they're disqualified). Then we can discuss who was the best out of those listed, if we want, or we can dismiss it as a crap idea, who knows. 2010s: Wilder 2000s: Byrd 1990s: Golota 1980s: Witherspoon 1970s: Lyle 1960s: Williams 1950s: Valdes 1940s: Ray 1930s:Galento 1920s: Wills 1910s: Langford 1900s: Langford If you have any better choices feel free to throw their names into the hat, but try to stick to the criteria of they've never been ranked number 1 in the world. For my money, looking at the rough draft, I'm gonna go with Witherspoon.
2010s: Alexander Povetkin 2000s: Chris Byrd 1990s: Ike Ibeabuci 1980s: Pinklon Thomas 1970s: Jimmy Young 1960s: Floyd Patterson 1950s: Archie Moore 1940s: Billy Conn 1930s: Tommy Loughran 1920s: Harry Wills 1910s: Sam Langford I don't know about 1900s, but it shouldn't be Langford. He wasn't even a heavyweight until like 1909. I'd likely have Peter Jackson in the 1890s.
Okay, the thread title had me lost and I see the foreign thing under your username and I think you're just having trouble explaining what you're asking so lemme holler at you and try and see what you meant. I think you meant if Michael "NUNN" were to go heavyweight after he received his honoury light heavyweight championship belt from the WBsizzle, making him a three-time champion, and he won a fourth title in whatever decade that would make this, then would he be p4p above Toney then again for the second time? It probably would but that ish is not going to happen, Luf.
Doesn't count, as he was the number one in the 1950s. Other than that, I like your list. May prefer Witherspoon over Thomas.
Well, back to my original pick of Machen. And Pinklon showed he was conclusively better head-to-head than Witherspoon IMO.
Valdes was ranked number 1 at the end of 1953 & 1954. Wills was number 1 at the end of 1924 & 25. Galento was number 1 in Dec 1939.
Then list them. As i said as long as someone picks a man who's never been considered the best, it's all good.
Ibeabuchi is such a good shout. Can't believe I didn't think of him. As for 1900s, weight divisions weren't as cut and dry then as they are now.
Then you should have specified that, you're wrong anyway there was no one reigning above Byrd in2005.The title was vacant.
