Why is his take on religion arrogant? Basically, all he's saying, is that some people believe what they have been indoctrinated with. Isn't that the truth? I mean, lots of religious people believe our planet is only about 6,000 years old, because that's what they have been told - and no amount of scientific evidence to the contrary will ever change their minds.

I don't think Fitzsimmons would be able to get in a single clinch with Roy. Roy is too elusive and he'd punish Fitzsimmons every time Fitzsimmons would try to get close.

It's not just about putting your hands up, it's about combination punching, ability to land or slip, etc, it just ain't there. The footage we have clearly shows that.

I'd favor Roy, but at 175 pounds if Mr. Jones gets tagged by Bob he's going to take a nap. Using the rules of Fitz's time I'd lean his way

My guess would be for a couple reasons (although this isn't the Lounge, so I'm not sure it even belongs here, but why not.)

First, it's implying that this kind of thinking is in some way unusually characteristic of religion, religious beliefs, and/or religious people.

Second, there's the social dimension, where we're on a multicultural boxing forum that includes all sorts of people. Most of these people could be expected not to appreciate their identity groups insulted parenthetically. At least not outside the Lounge. Religions of various sorts are a common type of identity group.

Fitzsimmons would tie Jones up in these fights to the finish. 25 plus rounds is a LONG time to be dancing around.

Again, assuming Fitz knows what he's doing:

Combination punching is harder under the old rules due to liberalized clinch rules and smaller gloves, which restrict one's ability to stay in the middle range where combinations are most viable.

Roy would probably be better advised to potshot, which his skills have prepared him to do in any event.

I don't know whether it's been put to the test against a top flight boxer, but one of the major lessons of the MMA revolution is that it's harder to land your perfect punch against a clincher than it is to close the distance and clinch.

If you want a boxing example, consider how Ruiz got squished by Tua, and then started clinching his way to victory without getting squished again.

What on Earth makes you think Fitzsimmons can ever make it past round 1 ?!?
Roy finishes him off whenever he wants.

Jones 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year. Wouldn’t even be close.

Good example, but the problem is Fitzsimmons is nowhere near Ruiz's level.

Fitz certainly could land, slip etc. It's visible on avaliable footage.

Now this is ridiculous, have you ever fought against a grappler?

Alexander Karelin wasn't a boxer at all. I would expect him to be able to land a clinch against Lennox Lewis.

Give Fitz's chin more credit than that, most times when Fitz was ko in his prime, it happen to be a beat down.
