Nowhere near the same thing. Although, I can understand why you would want that to be a true comparison.
If people truly believe that Canelo is P4P #1 today....then GGG was an All-Time Great. He didn't just win the 1st fight ...he dominated by winning 8 rounds. The man was 35 and well past prime. Hell, an even older GGG barely managed to win the rematch (though I have no problem if one edged the fight to Clenelo) but you must consider GGG was now 36 and fighting a fully roided Clenelo. Clen is now walking down and DESTROYING 168 and 175lbers but was utterly walked down by GGG in the first fight for all 12 rds and managed to hold the center of the ring (though not walk-down GGG even for a moment) for the first 9 rounds of the rematch. GGG finished that fight marching down Clen very reminiscent of the 1st fight. The man was an absolute monster of a middleweight.
Mental to suggest otherwise, he’s the cash cow, it’s pretty straight forward how it all worked out. Majority ringside, majority of fans, media, trainers, boxers, all of them said it should’ve gone Golovkins way, not like it was to tight to call so settle for a draw attitude unless your a Canelo fan or EE hater
A proper Ambassador to the sport, clean living, polite, no stories of him beating his wife or road rage, just a gentleman
Plenty of people saw a Draw, too. An unusual number. I'm not a fan of Canelo and I accept that he has perhaps had some favorable results, in the past. But, in this case, neither Canelo nor Golvkin really took enough control of the fight to demonstrably outdo the other. Had it gone to Golovkin, I would not have cared either - and I'm sure I'd have just been asserting the same position to heartbroken Canelo fans, instead.
He will be remembered for beating Canelo at least once, and arguably twice before being robbed. Also beating Hopkins record of title defense 20 to 19 with 18 by devastating KO'ES. Hopkins has a no contest he seems to get credit for.
Stevens was top 10 of the Ring. Golovkin KO'D 9 Ring mag top 10 fighters, those are not dug up its just facts.
GGG stayed in the amateur ranks too long and had way too many fights before turning pro much later then he should have. As for my opinion of him he was tough, durable and had great power in both hands. And I agree he got robbed in the first Canelo fight and the second fight while a lot closer could have actually been a draw.
Are you one of those people who thinks Gervonta Davis is a 3 division champ? I count world title belts only, not secondary or interim. GGG didn’t hold a full version of the WBA title until his fight with Gabe Rosado. He never officially beat Canelo either though and lost the series and hasn’t done anything since.
