It's a sad commentary on how far the sport of boxing has fallen when a fighter as average as Canelo can suddenly be compared to legitimate ATG's throughout the long great history of the sport based on his victory over a fighter like Plant, whom years ago would've been no more than a club fighter .
The one great fighter Canelo has faced schooled him, and Mayweather's best fighting weight was Jr. Lightweight.
Now all of a sudden he's competition for Hearns, Hagler, Leonard, and Duran? What next he stops Ray Robinson in 2rds?
He "walks down " Mike Tyson?
    He out jabs Ali?
    Please.
I've watched literally thousands of boxers over my nearly 45 yrs of watching this sport. Not just Highlights on YouTube but actually watching fights in their entirety.
Canelo isn't anywhere close to the level of the 4 Kings, he isn't better than Maccallum, Norris, Curry, Trinidad, Mosley, or Deloyhoya in their primes ...
Hell, I'd put my money on Starling to beat him.
Canelo just like Mayweather Jr above lightweight Has learned the art of getting the most money fights from the least resistance fighters .

Would he even get a chance to ko Hearns? At 5'8" with a 70" inch reach? Barkley was a big strong and NATURAL Middleweight at 6'1". He carried his power all the way up to Heavyweight.
Canelo would be at a very severe disadvantage of height and reach.
Canelo hasn't faced ANYONE CLOSE to the total package of speed, boxing know how, and devastating power of Thomas Hearns.
I'm very sure fighters as dangerous as Cuevas and Duran if they were able to land on Hearns they would've hurt him, at the least.
But that's the problem, Hearns didn't give them a chance, he wouldn't give Canelo a chance either Hearns stops Canelo in four rds at the most.

Hearns had a tendency to brawl when he shouldn't and would get overly aggressive

But that would be the problem for 5'8" Canelo with a 70"reach and limited. If Hearns did decide to take the fight to him, ( And he would) what could he do to stop it?

Your logic confuses me. He beats Hagler because he is 20 pounds heavier but against a guy that starred 2 divisions underneath Hagler it's "a difficult one"? I must be reading it wrong.

I think he'd have a decent chance against Hearns because power and Hearns' chin don't mix that well. He might beat Duran at 160 because Duran was small at the weight and not as good as he once was. 50-50 fights maybe. hagler I'd favour over him and Leonard too, mainly for his speed.

" Early in the fourth, Roldan wobbled Hearns with a left hook"

yes he was.. I think Canelo is being overrated a bit.. He is in a rather easy division in an easy era. it is hard to really compare him to greats right now.. I can see how if someone dominates guys people would say, well he can beat this guy or that. But those guys were not the guys Canelo has been fighting.

Would you rather be hit by Julian Jackson or Nigel Benn? Neither, if you have the power to knock someone out, you don't need loads on top of that

Duran was similar weight in the ring to Hagler, whereas Canelo, with modern weigh ins, would be 20lbs heavier in the actual ring
