Ward was going to fight Pavlik too at 168, and that would have been a good win as well. I agree Canelo isnt the GOAT, but what he achieved last weekend claiming all 4 belts in under a year is damn impressive. Imagine a hypothetical round robin where you have Canelo, Jones, ward and Calzaghe, who do you think would win? Great video rums
Great watch that Rummy. Loved the shout out to the old guard who weighed within the range before the division existed. For my money he's a clear 4th behind them. I have him above Toney, Froch, Benn, Eubank, Collins, Kessler etc.
He'll have a better resume then Calzaghe when it is all said and done. He wouldn't beat Jones jr. or Toney though at the weight.
Great video Rummy, although I would have liked to have seen this question:- Does anyone think that Roy, Zags or SOG would have lost to any of the B-Level fighters that Canelo has faced @168? Of course not! Roy would KO them all, and JC and Ward would either stop or shut them all out hardly losing a round. The achievement of being undisputed @168 is undeniably a great and historic one, but he has done it without defeating anyone even close to elite IMO.
I dgaf that he is an unified champion, because those "champions" that he beat were bums. I dont like Ward but alone his Kessler or Froch win is much better than Canelo's all combined wins over Yildirim, Fielding, Smith, Saunders and Plant ahaha. In 2011 those fighters would be like top 20 in 168 division.
I agree. Calzaghe's clean and clear win over Kessler is something that Canelo is not going to find at 168 for the simple reason that there isn't anyone as good as Kessler was right now at 168. A win over Benavidez would be solid but outside of that, 168 is simply not a strong division right now. With that said, I'm still going to tune in and watch Canelo fight. He can only fight who is available in his era.
Canelo at 168 -Yildrim (clear as day fixed fight) -Callum Smith. Another suspect fight where Callum just let Canelo plod towards him all night. Callum rarely put any sting on his punches. Canelo was not using any fancy movement or counterpunching, just plodding forward. Not saying it was definitely a fix, but it was suspect. If it wasn't a fix, Callum looked trash against European level Ryder and was given a 2 month camp. This doesn't even take into account Callums Smiths non existent resume. -blown up 160lber Billy Joe Saunders. Billy had not had a world level fight since 2017 (Lemieux). He looked meh in his last 3 fights 168. Add to that he won the belt of Shefat Isufi. -Plant. He is and has always been trash. He is known for his pillow fists but I haven't seen him pull his punches, and pittpatty the way he was doing in the Canelo fight. This is all the more suspect given he could at least extend on his punches rather than pull given the height and reach advantage. Canelo is just suspect to say the least... All this consideration about him being p4p and goat of anything is just ridiculous.
..let's consider that Plant, Saunders and Smith's legacy at 168 currently consists of a faded George Groves… That's about it.. this thread I actually find offensive .. unifyting trinket belts is meaningless when there is no substance behind them.. embarrassing to suggest he's the goat at super middleweight… it's even worse than arguing Jermain Taylor is the goat at middleweight.. Have you forgotten who's actually fought at 168? Calzaghe, Ward, Jones, Kessler, Benn, Froch, Bute, Barkley, Collins, Eubank, Degale, Malinga, Liles etc.. Canelo trumps all of them because he beat Caleb plant? LOL.. & Smith .. Who was inactive & flat at the weight by that stage of his career… & a career MW (Saunders) who barely fights once a year . .. embarrassing disrespectful fanboyism drunk on sanctioning body corruption and trinket belt envy.. has Canelo actually beat a legit world champion at super middleweight yet? Who did these guys win their belts off other than post surgery Groves who'd been knocked silly by Carl Froch twice??? Who the **** have any of them beat?
