Junlong Zhang. He hasn't officially retired but it's been years since he had a fight. He says he'll be back against a WBA rated opponent, though.

Carl Froch had plenty in the tank still was hitting all his training record times etc... should have fought GGG...I would favour him at SMW

Not falling in love with his power after he beat Steve Robinson, not letting his brothers meddle, and not leaving Brendan Ingle certainly would've helped his cause too. But in Hamed's defence, I think he did say that by the time he fought Manuel Calvo he simply had no more hunger left for boxing anymore.

I was gutted that Pirog had to retire due to the persistent back injury: Pirog vs GGG would've been a great fight.

Going way back, Jimmy McLarnin. Retired just shy of his 29th birthday with his health and wealth intact -- an extreme rarity in the fight game. It's hard not to respect that.

Yup! He thought he won it, and turned down truckloads of money. He became a straight to video Movistar in cheapies produced in the Philippines.

I heard he got in trouble with government for not paying some kind of fee or taxes. I would like to see him back, but maybe it is too late?

It was WBA sanctions, according to him, they removed him from their rankings. The reason he stopped boxing entirely is that his team wanted him to not take damage before they found a contender who would fight him. Per Asian boxing.

Seemingly, no contender was up to the task, either for financial reasons or otherwise.

I always thought Pavlik had a couple great wins or at least damn good fights left in the tank

Groves. If he hadn't made that guy a vegetable maybe he would have pushed on a bit. He retired very young by today's standards.
He left some big/interesting fights out there.
    Groves - Saunders
    Groves - Canelo
    Groves - Ward
    Groves - Bivol
