Shortest Reign Ever of a World Champion?

is Galahads 98 days/14 weeks the shortest ever? or the shortest ever by a brit world champion?

Can't think of any that lasted that was over as quick as it started like that

 

It's like you're almost happy that Kid Galahad lost last night. Why ?

 

I think Galahad's is the shortest reign of any Brit.

I was intruiged as to the answer to this so I performed a search on a certain search engine, and apparently Tony Canzoneri had a 33 day reign as Light Welterweight champion. There are even two Reigns that were shorter than this:

Why wouldn't I be. Don't you just love it when a drug cheat gets starched, Beautiful!

 

Has anyone retired straight after winning the title before? No one springs to mind.

The Tyson Fury IBF debacle post Wlad has to be up there

 

Tony Tucker won the vacant IBF heavyweight title against Buster Douglas on May 30 1987 and lost it 63 days later on Aug 01 in a unification fight against WBC/WBA champ Mike Tyson.

 

Or was it perhaps more ..."for the culture"?

Im sure somebody was "elevated" from interim or Silver or some garbage right before a fight and then lost... if that were to count.

Anyone who retired and relinquished immediately after... if that were to count.

Kid Galahad dreamt of headlining his own home show, then cruises for 4 rounds with the crowd chanting “Boring!” Over and over again until he gets starched by someone he was meant to beat very easily.

Oh I do love boxing.

The fact Eddie did his best to convince people all week Kiko was somewhat dangerous, even though the bookies had Kiko a huge outsider and then after the fight said "I didn't think in a million years Kiko would win"

Well what is it Eddie? Was he dangerous or didn't you give him a chance?

Hearn tried to con the boxing fans again and got STUNG. I love it.

 

Truthfully I don’t think the DAZN launch could have gone much worse for Eddie. The Liverpool show was very good, but showed Fowler to be very limited and never going to be a future star which leaves Hearn with Beefy who is probably just a smidge behind the world champions. Warrington didn’t manage to avenge diddly squat. AJ loses on Sky. Barry and Terri Harper lose their belts. If Katie Taylor loses her belt I don’t know what he’ll do - he’s probably going to empty the coffers now to get Khan / Brook on DAZN.

 

I was over the moon he lost, in fact I'm still buzzing! The man is such a tit..Lovely just lovely.

 

From my write up on Young Stribling. He was world champion for three hours.




He was world titlist once, for a few hours at least. The year was 1923 and a then 17-year-old Young Stribling, astonishingly the holder of a 64-3-12 record, went into the ring in Columbus, Georgia to face the light heavyweight champion of the world, Mike McTigue. The bout was shrouded in controversy, the kind boxing knows only too well. The New York Times in fact reported that McTigue was forced to compete that night despite a broken thumb: “McTigue issued a statement declaring that he had been forced into the ring with a broken thumb at the point of pistols, and Joe Jacobs (McTigue’s manager) stated that spectators had threatened to hang him to a tree…”

The controversy continued after the final bell when referee Harry Ertle deemed the bout a draw, only to change his verdict to a victory for challenger Stribling. But the newly crowned champion would lose the title as quickly as he had gained it as Ertle later recanted the decision, as reported in The New York Times:

“Ertle declared the bout a draw at the end of the tenth and final round. The spectators closed in on the ring, demonstrating their disapproval. Ertle, after a conference with newspaper men, changed the decision and the match and the light heavyweight championship was awarded to the Macon high school boy, who had sat in tears in his corner during the excitement. Tonight, three hours after the fight, Ertle again spoke, this time declaring that his original decision, that the fight was a draw, was correct.”
