JB has a hand injury apparently. Very disappointing news. It was a brilliant fight, easily the best on the card. I have my lingering doubts that Matchroom pulled him out of this one and will look to get him a somewhat easier fight in the early part of next year, especially after what has happened this year to a number of their fighters. If that's the case I think it's a mistake for what it's worth. Big test, but he would have won and at his age/stage of career there's nothing to be gained by protecting him.
8.44 he's talking money, around the 20 minute mark he starts putting it on Kugan about the "Pie", Kugan counters him pretty well and, as usual, he can't handle it when it's put on him and he cracks. It's probably all staged but still, the guy is gobbling up all the PPV money, the only way this stops is if people stop paying for this rubbish. I don't for the life of me know how this fight is even top of a Saturday night PPV bill, it's absolutely terrible. This content is protected
For all the credit Eddie gets for his marketing abilities, use of social media and general skill as a salesman he has ironically in my view largely mismanaged and stalled the careers of three of his most talented fighters- Joshua Buatsi, Joe Cordina, Felix Cash. All should be much further ahead than they are career wise. All three should have much bigger profiles. Outside of dedicated boxing fans they are virtually unknown. I know there have been issues, partly to do with injuries in the case of Joe/Felix (and various differences of opinion with JB behind the scenes) so part of that has been down to bad luck but just as much has been down to Matchroom putting their priorities in the wrong places and chasing easy money rather than backing real, genuine talent.
That’s because he’s a salesman who knows pretty much nothing about boxing. There’s a funny story of him not knowing who Golovkin was and ringing Tony Sims saying he’s got a potential opponent for Darren Barker and Sims put the phone down.
