Canelo has accomplished quite a bit since GGG 1. I catch myself admiring his style, confidence and composure, but we must not forget that he has been given gifts. Fought at Canelo weight until he decided he was ready for Golovkin. Failed drug test. Tested positive for Clenbuterol. WBC changes the level of clen you are allowed to have in your system. Continued juicing and jumping around in weight divisions fighting selected opponents, avoiding heavy hitters. WBC (Suillman) creates franchise belts for him to never have to fight a mandatory. He inherited the face of boxing I get it, but will this taint his legacy or will it just be forgotten?
You guys are too obsessed with Canelo. He is just another cash cow like Mayweather, De La Hoya or Leonard. Cash cows have privilege. There will be his successors if boxing doesn't die until then.
Nothing wrong with being critical of boxers who get their every wish granted. 95%+ of all boxers are not afforded the luxury of only a network backing, but an ABC org giving passes to them freely.
pretty standard for the top fighter of any era. they break a lot of hearts and shatter a lot of hopes on the way up. but with all the advantages their position affords them, they still need to perform. and even fighters who claim they beat him, say he is a much better fighter today. so whether he got gifts or not, he is still the best fighter in the world today. and that gets remembered way longer than fanboy chatter.
Does anybody remember TUE and Mayweather's failed tests or cherry picking? Does anybody remember how Sugar Ray Robinson got robbery decisions over Marty Servo? They don't even remember that Mike Tyson raped a woman or that Ali called for death to race mixers.
The only thing different from cash cows in the past (Mayweather, JCC, SRL) is that Canelo not only stacks the deck and juices but he participates in quite obviously fixed fights (see Yildrim and Kovalev as prime examples)
He lost to a 40 year old former lightweight Lost to GGG Lost to VADA Lost all respect by fighting Khan He's a loser
But he's not the best fighter in the world. He's only the most famous and highest paid. Lomachenko, Crawford, and Lara all land more and get hit less with Inoue just a smidge behind him. Vasyl Lomachenko 47.6-18.2= 29.4 Erislandy Lara 45.4-18.8= 26.6 Terence Crawford 47.5-21.2= 26.3 Saul Alvarez 47.1-23.3= 23.8 Errol Spence 46.4-22.7= 23.7 Naoya Inoue 44.5-21.1= 23.4 He's a great fighter but he's not the best. He's maybe the sixth best of his generation.
Mayweather yes was a cherry picker, but he also defended his so called "losses" which i give him credit for. SRR, Tyson and Ali were all animals and ducked nobody. Ali was gifted a few decisions.
stats have never been the end all be all. there are so many things that go into determining who is the best. and the further up the fan ladder you go from casual, to fighter and trainer, the more factors get taken into account. your opinion, for example, is not what will be common knowledge and taken as fact in 20 years. heck, it cant be taken serious right now. as i compared on another thread, you got a guy struggling to catch up to a kid with 16 fights, above the current undisputed smw champion, under your system. obviously, your system is at casual level on the ladder.
HE IS A 100% MANUFACTURED CHAMPION PERIOD!!!!!!!!! Which really is a shame because the kid can fight. He had the talent to do it the right way. but instead signed a deal with the DEVIL (VEGAS) which ensues he will never lose a decision there or ever get ANOTHER peds test failure there. This must ban him from ever being inducted into the HOF
