RJJ is a completely different fighter then Canelo.
    You can't compare the two.
RJJ dominated his opponents no close decisions no anything but pure domination when he was in his prime.

In all honesty the guys he beat at SMW weren't paper Champions. They were legit, and they were all Undefeated. That meant something. But fighting this CW Champ with 2 losses doesn't move the needle much. He'll be expected to win. Kovalev was a satisfying victory for a multitude of reasons, for one many expected him to lose, and the fact that he stopped him showed that he could take his power up to higher weights.

He is a completely different fighter and RJJ was more dominate throughout his entire career but to say he had no close decisions in his prime, that's not's not exactly true. Montell Griffin 1 was very close on the scorecards before the DQ. Roy was dropped by Lou Del Valle, whereas Canelo's never been knocked down. And also, the fighters who had close decisions with Canelo were before Canelo was really in his prime and were arguably better than anyone Roy ever faced in his prime. Did Roy ever have to fight someone as tough as GGG?

So I think you can compare the two in the sense that over the last 3 years, since the GGG rematch, Canelo has been about as dominate as RJJ was in his prime. Certainly at Super Middleweight, Canelo has been very dominate. And now Canelo is talking about moving all the way up to Crusierweight. It's very reminiscent of when RJJ moved up to HW from LHW.

Oh my god really? Taking down what's out there
Really don't see him fighting any of the other unbeaten light heavyweight champions.
Wow. He fighting a bigger boxer who hasn't fought in what over a year and has been knocked out?

It seems that some people would rather him fight at LHW. I guess I'm more of a traditionalist in the sense that I think he should be fighting exclusively at SMW now that he's become Undisputed. Defend the Undisputed, you know what I mean? That's what boxing fans have been asking for. To have ONE Champion in a Weight Division. It would be a shame if he vacated those after putting in all the work to Unify a division.

lol. it must be hell to wish such negativity on a fighter and watch him turn everything he touches into gold, at the same time.

Griffin faked like he couldn't get up after an illegal punch and what happened in the rematch? He got blown out. And if we are being honest in the first fight Griffin was on his way to getting stopped.

As tough as GGG???? How about BERNARD HOPKINS and JAMES TONEY?

Plant goes maybe 4 rounds with Roy at Super Middle and Saunders would have got clocked really fast maybe 3 rounds.

Canelo isn't ANYWHERE close to RJJ other then collecting belts. That's about it.

Not really I think its hilarious to be honest.
Boxing has fallen so far down they have to manufacture a "great" boxer.

I love the what if Canelo fought Hagler match ups because anyone that's seen both knows exactly what would have happened if those two were to be matched up in thier primes.

Kovalev was brain damage at this stage of his career...weight drained too,he even said that the fight was fixed to his fans.
So no the fight with the corpse of Kov was not sastisfying, many enthusiasts here predict the outcome...even a slow plodder like Yarde almost beat him,Triple G would have beaten him...and everyone who can punch at 168-175 .

In Griffin 1, I'm just pointing out that the fight was very close before the DQ. It wasn't a domination before Roy finally got to him right before the DQ. Griffin had a lot of success in that match. As far as GGG being as tough as Hopkins or James Toney. If we're honest, when Roy fought Hopkins that was before Hopkins really became prime. You can't tell me that Hopkins was harder to beat for Roy that night than GGG was when Canelo fought him. As far as Toney, you have to take into account that Toney's condition when he fought RJJ was poor. That was far from the best versions of Toney that RJJ beat.

I don't disagree with you that Prime RJJ would stop Plant and Saunders sooner than Canelo did, but that's not really a knock on Canelo. Canelo is far more patient and slow buildup than RJJ was. How confident are you that RJJ would stop Callum Smith? Callum Smith is tough as nails and it would be hard for Roy to stop him. Roy would not have been any more dominant of Callum Smith than Canelo was. You can't do better than a shutout. And it would be hard for anyone to top stopping Saunders and Plant in that fashion that Canelo did. Maybe Roy would have stopped them sooner, but that doesn't take anything away from how dominate Canelo was vs those 3 undefeated Champions. Maybe not quite to what you'd expect Roy to do vs those guys, but still quite dominate nonetheless.

That to me is the funniest thing I've almost ever seen.
A completely shot fighter who almost got taken out by an amateur (Yarde) and Canelo moves up and of course wins and the next thing I know people are asking me "do you think Canelo could have beaten FOSTER or SPINKS lol.

Callum Smith has beaten who?? Roy would beat the brakes off of Smith EASILY.
Now Hopkins was too young? And you do know Roy beat him essentially with ONE hand having injured his right early in the fight? And Hopkins STILL,couldn't do a thing.
Poor condition? Toney was unbeaten and in the prime of his career. And he lost almost every round and got dropped. Now its because he wasn't in top condition?
Knocking people Out is ALWAYS BETTER then a shut out.

Pretty much what Pacquiao did with Margarito and DLH did with Sturm. Lots of others throughout recent history have done it.

That's true and of course what RJJ did with Ruiz. And I don't think it's something to criticize them for, as moving up in weight is hard to do and an accomplishment even if you pick on the weakest Champion.

My problem with this announcement isn't that there's anything wrong with this, it's just that I'd rather Canelo stay at Super Middle and focus on defending his Undisputed Titles. Because that's a rarer feat in boxing than winning a title at a higher weight class. Then again, the amount of weight Canelo would be moving up to from where he was does make it more impressive than what Pac did vs Margarito or what DLH did with Sturm. That's a much higher amount of weight to traverse.
