We're talking about a guy that reckons his choice of coat at press conferences is designed to intimidate opponents, yep a boxing pro with 10 years+ experience actually said that. With that in mind combined with his record against anyone not intimidated by him would anyone at all care if he never fought again?
It isn't what I think It's the fact Jr thinks Roy is worthy of listening to. Jr had this weird thing where he thought he could manage everything himself without imput from others and I believe having this delusion stunted his growth as a boxer. I remember a vid with Ronnie Davies saying how brilliant Jr is because he already knows everything to do and doesn't need imput or advise from anyone else..
I imagine he deemed his father worthy of listening to & that hasn't went great. Jones was a great boxer, doesn't make him a great trainer. You mention Ronnie Davies, if jnrs name was Chris Davies Jr with the same career to this point he would be lucky to get on a show never mind headline it.
I agree completely I like Roy as a boxer and as a commentator. as a trainer there is little evidence either way. Agree about his old man but don't you think that might of frustrated Jr making him have this must do it on my own mentality? Personally I do I can't think of a rational reason why he would be able to go it alone and develop unless he is just a mental case.
I know a certain father who said he was happy just being amongst the best but not fighting the best. Is this a case of like father like son? Junior has stepped up twice in his career and lost twice. I wouldnt consider the LW fight a step up. I think this is within his hitting zone and I expect him to win. But he does need to revert to type, and not play this Roy Jones impression game as that does not suit him. It is a shame he has avoided the likes of GGG and Canelo
He could well have had that mentality but I can only base my opinion on what I've seen & I've seen nothing from him to suggest he's some sort of legit world title contender, he's not & never was. Watch him at his physical peak v Groves....now imagine what canelo or ggg would've done to him & that was a far more active jnr.
Both men would probably agree its a shame they never got hold of him at a time when some entertained it as something other than a massacre
Agree they talked a lot of smack about GGG with Snr saying Jnr would destroy him but like with David Haye we can all talk smack but your judged on what you do and at some point you have to come up with the goods. He had a close fight with Saunders but that's only because Saunders had 6 rounds in his gas tank. Groves clowned him untill the last round only because Groves dislocated his shoulder. The only name of note was Abraham and he was what 7-8 years past prime. As you say any other surname and we would never of heard of him.
I suspect Jr's general attitude to boxing and trainers is tarnished with his arrogance and belief of self importance and entitlement. Almost to the point of being deluded. Partly due to genetics (Snr) and partly due to a gifted and possibly spoilt upbringing. What Jr wanted each and every time as a kid Jr probably got. In the way he wanted it and when he wanted it. He wants to be a world champion so much that it's his god given right. But it's got to be on his terms. Where, how and when. I can imagine he is or was hard work to train in the gym. Not in the respect of actual personal work rate or effort as he is a gym rat. Just in his attitude that it's got to be his way as he knows best. It's the Chris Eubank Jr show. What he can realistically hope to achieve from now on I don't know. Having said that I still like to watch his fights.
Never listened to his dad, hence Sr standing staring at him not talking during BJS fight between rounds to ‘teach him a lesson in tough love’. They don’t see much of eachother these days, though Roy and Sr talk some.

At a dinner Eubank Sr said his three main US rivals around his age in their 20s were Nunn, Toney and Jones. He said there are three things you avoid in boxing; height, a southpaw or speed. Nunn was all three he said. He said a Toney or Jones fight would possibly end with two stretchers. You had to pay him more than he made in his other fights to face them and nobody ever offered it. He said due to the Benn draw, Don King wouldn’t pay him what he initially agreed due to not holding the WBC, stating he had already signed to face Nunn for three of the four titles if he beat Benn again. He should definitely retire if he loses this, who would want to pay to see him fight if he losses to Williams lol No point in fighting for peanuts, should just go the celebrity tv route. Probably too old for love island. Do they still do Big Brother lol?
