It's actually a decent looking show in a fortnight's time if they can keep it together. Not sure if it's being televised but I'd like to catch it.

Big Daddy v Django as the main, but also features some of the best young talent in the country matched against recognisable names.

Andrew Hunt & Conor Wallace have claims to being the best at their weight in the country while Teremoana Jr & Clay Waterman are very talented. Big fan of Teremoana Jr after seeing him on debut. If they can get him regular fights he could really be something.

December is looking pretty good for local boxing. We've got decent shows Fri & Sat 3 & 4 Dec + Thurs & Fri 9 & 10 Dec.

 

You reckon Big Daddy makes it out of the first round?

 

Browne probably wouldn't make it out of the first against current Tua and Meehan.

 

That's the beauty of this fight. What's going to happen? Loading up on a first round job is not without risk. Hope we get to see some odds for it.

 

Guys- urgent update regarding Mark de Mori.

After the Haye banana skin and the recent run of extravagant form and ultimate redemption, proving he belongs amongst the division's elite, Mark will square off against Michael Hunter. Will be a tough one, so hopefully he gets in a good training camp. No gimme by any stretch, nethertheless he must go in favourite considering his long knock out streak leading up. A win for the much avoided Mark will put him well and truly in title contention.

 

I'd be very surprised.

 

People forget that was Haye 2.0 and he was an absolute monster until his body broke down again.. He was KO'ing people with jabs then...

 

It's clearly a conspiracy to stop Mark's rapid rise to the top of the sport... The NYSAC has refused to sanction Hunter-De Mori. I reckon they could be convinced to let the fight go down sometime next year if Mark KO's two more fighters named Laszlo.

 

Reports have come in that Laszlo Toth is pressing charges on account of being kept, bound, beneath De Mori's stairs - brought out only for fixed fights and for an occasional thrashing at the hands of a post-pub, drunken De Mori. When questioned, Laszlo stated: 'record padding was the least of my worries'.

De Mori is clearly no longer Croatia's marquee heavyweight, Hrgovic has seemingly edged past Mark. Mark has dodged the fight with rumours implying: '....a loss to Hrgovic could really sully his resume'.

Truth be told, Hrgovich wants nothing to do with Mark. Mark says Hrgovich not on his radar and that he 'hasn't even beat one Laszlo, mate'

 

In light of the dribble that's been appearing in the mainstream Australian sports media regarding The Tool Train's next move (nonsense like 'Tszyu snubbed in devastating development'), I thought we should get back to reality & out of the realm of fantasy for all the valued & dear readers of the foremost authority on Australian boxing anywhere in the world - the Stifler's Mum thread.

First of all, it makes perfect sense for the Checkpoint Charlo v Garden Gnome, err, I mean Brian Castano unification rematch to proceed. Good fight first time & who doesn't want to see an Undisputed champ? US dollars are still king so that fight's happening no matter what, I would say. The fact that it is isn't a negative for Timmy though. It will allow him to get another fight against a decent opponent under his belt.

What's also worth bearing in mind is that once we have a unified champ, it's not a foregone conclusion that Timmy will be first in the queue for a shot at him. The IBF have already been stamping their feet in relation to their mandatory so I would say there's a decent chance that the Undisputed champ, particularly if it's Charlo, would be inclined to make that mandatory first. Again, that's not a real negative for Tim. It simply means he will need to take another fight. So he could potentially have another couple of fights before challenging for a world title (or titles, as the case may be). Nothing negative about any of that at all & certainly not a 'devastating development'. The better opposition Tim faces before fighting for the title/s, the better his chances of winning when the time comes.

A couple of other points worth noting are that Charlo won't be coming out here to defend against Timmy and may elect to depart the division altogether if he wins (what's there to stick around for?) particularly if Big Charlo moves up to Super Middle. Castano is much more likely to make the WBO mandatory first (b/c the payday for doing so against Timmy will be much bigger) & he's also more likely to be willing to come to Australia to collect the big money on offer notwithstanding the noises that have been made recently by his management team about wanting the fight in America. The facts are Castano has been willing to travel in the past if the money is right whereas Charlo doesn't need to & won't.

Why is all of that important? Because Team Tool Train needs to take all of that into account in deciding their next move. The toughest decision appears to be where to fight next? In Australia again or in the US, possibly on the Charlo v Castano unification show. If Charlo wins & elects to stay in the division, the best preparation for facing him is likely to be a couple of fights in the US. Because there's a couple of big 'if's' associated with that pathway, I reckon Timmy should stay on the path that's been successful for him thus far. Fighting here while he can & make Castano an offer he can't refuse if he wins the unification fight.

The other decision will be who to fight. Irrespective of where the fights take place, I think that's a much easier one. I like both of the names mentioned being the 2012 US Olympian Terrell Gausha 22-2-1 (11) & former WBC champ Tony Harrison 28-3-1 (21). I prefer Gausha as an opponent b/c he's been more active lately. Harrison's inactivity puts him in a similar spot to where Jarrett Hurd & J-Rock were before they were beaten - off the pace. Better to fight a guy next who is on an upwards trajectory rather than a downwards one. I'd be happy for Tim to fight them both - Gausha out here in Feb or March pending the outcome of the unification fight & if Charlo wins or they can't get Castano to come out here, then go over & face Harrison on a US show. Then fight for all the marbles at Jr Middle in the US at the end of next year.

That would be my approach - try to do the fights here including the next one in Australia, assess what the landscape looks like after the unification fight in terms of whether they can get Castano out here or if Charlo is staying in the division. Then go to the US to fight Harrison mid year while the undisputed champ makes the IBF mandatory & then be the WBO mandatory at the end of next year.

Having acquired the titles, Timmy defends against the new WBO mandatory, Kurbanov in Russia & then moves up in weight to potentially challenge someone like GGG. But that's chapter 2. We're still on chapter 1.

Personally, I'd like to see Tim do a few things in his career that Kostya never did. Fighting for the WBO title will be one of those things. Fighting in Russia will be another. Moving up in weight will be a third. I'd add to that list not going to America to challenge for a world title if you don't have to. Over to you, Team Tszyu 2.

 

Demsey McKean looked so-so tonight.

 

That could pretty sum up his career.

He has done amazing to get to this level considering his actual skills and talent.
But me thinks when a decent contender comes to snatch his ranking he will find so so won't cut it

 

Breaking news on the Stifler's Mum thread...

Nikita Tszyu, Tim Tszyu's younger brother, is turning pro & is expected to debut as a Junior Middle in February next year. I think he won several national titles in the amateurs & is a southpaw. He's still only 23.

Junior Tszyu 2 will be targeting Ben Horn in his professional debut.
