Yeah...Richard, these guys aren't worthy of exchanging words with...they aren't Classic Forum worthy.
surfinghb, these short attention span idiots will forget all you've said by the time the next Monzon thread come along.
Not my intention. You called Mike McCallum a worthless bum and I called you on something undeniably absurd.
This is a fact. It doesn’t mean he didn’t fight any middleweights but it is a point. problem is most people don’t like the idea of a modern(ish) contender being able to beat or even compete with a legendary champion like Monzon and so you get these all or nothing close minded posts clinging to status.
Both Monzon and Kalambay had stiff, slow movement, quite clumsy, but Kalambay moved his head much more smoothly than Monzon did, Monzon never proved himself against a fighter as gifted a McCallum, I think I`ll lean towards Kalambay in a close points win unless he gets caught flush, Monzon had far more power than Nunn.
Things just seem to go from bad to worse in this thread. What the hell is going on with this forum anyway?
Mike McCallum although a decent fighter was a blown up 154 lb fighter at middleweight, he sure did not have longevity on his side like a Carlos Monzon or a Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Sumbu Kalambay was the same, lack of longevity. You can only fight the opposition offered to you in your era. A man in the ring is trying to beat the other's brains out, if a fighter loses, he is a bum, if he wins, he is fighting nobodies, a Catch 22. Promoters promote, fighters fight, not everyone can promote their future opposition, not everyone is Muhammad Ali. But different strokes for different folks, I will stay clear of your threads from now on.
Thanks my friend, these guys are just amateurs that are hanging on past their bedtime and others have an ax to grind. Jealousy is a bad habit to have, I do not have any idea to feel that way, never have, never will. At least I am confident of myself, not like these clown trolls.
They're uneducated boxing illiterates. Hey,...they don't have to like who I like, or anything like that...a difference of opinion is always fair,..but to continually disparage the Monzons, Griffiths, Valdez's, & Benvenuti's, ETC.,...only displays generational, willful ignorance.. This content is protected This content is protected ..., and I ain't participating in that sort of **** anymore. It isn't my job to educate these morons and idiots...it's no fun here in this once respectable forum anymore when the standards have dropped so far.
Those youngsters or the ones I say have an ax to grind need General Forum Therapy. I have my college degree in Psychology, I used to run the Group Therapy session in the Mental Health Unit that I was working in, The General Forum Therapy sessions will prove beneficial for these few, especially the instigators who create these type of threads to watch others fight among each other. This site is for mature experienced men, not troll wanna be's.
I wrote Monzon was a great fighter. I never said I pick Kalambay to defeat Monzon. I wrote he'd be a tough fight and I stand by that .. I also wrote I haven't seen Monzon fight a fast boxing , highly skilled natural middleweight in their prime .. Nino was a very good fighter but not great nor in his prime .. Napoles was small, old and managed to hit Monzon a lot in the early rounds of their fight which leads me too believe that if a small, old , burnt out fighter like Naples could do it a top caliber, young, larger, fast boxing, natural middleweight greatwould give him a very tough test .. Emile was really a blown up welter and old. Briscoe was a tough as nails, hard hitting bad ass Philly killer but slower, hittable , a bit predictable and not the type of fighter I am referring to and of course I know all about the shot he hit Monzon with in the ninth round off the rematch .. Monzon was a great middleweight , period. That doesn't mean he's automatically the greatest ever when we never even saw him against top guys that had size , speed and reach to meet him .. Hagler was smaller but tough as nails and natural middleweight with very good speed and power in his prime and also had a 75" reach .. I think Jones at 160 would have been way too fast and hard hitting .. lots of terrific matchups ..
Excuse me? What a load of back peddling. You called Mike McCallum a worthless bum with no context at all and half of what you are saying is irrelevant entirely.
